dpugui10.dll is a legacy DivXNetworks application file, not a Windows system DLL. The safest fix is to identify the DivX program requesting it, then repair or reinstall that exact program from its original installer or the official DivX legacy downloads page.
What this file actually does
The file is identified as dpuGUI10, a component associated with older DivX software from DivXNetworks. It is not part of Windows, DirectX, a device driver, or a standard Microsoft runtime.

Public records identify the commonly reported file as a 32-bit Win32 DLL. However, historical DivX installations contain different builds, so there is no single version or file size that every computer should have. Check the file’s Properties > Details tab instead of treating a download-site specification as universal.
The exact DivX product that installed dpugui10.dll is not conclusively documented. DivX’s official legacy archive includes several older DivX releases and Dr. DivX downloads, but it does not explicitly state which package contains this particular DLL. That is why reinstalling the application named in the error is more reliable than copying a file from somewhere else.

The program requesting the DLL may be:
- An older DivX playback, conversion, or authoring application
- A shortcut pointing to a removed DivX installation
- An old program restored from a backup or migrated from another computer
- A legacy application whose files were partly removed by an update, cleanup tool, or antivirus product
Do not assume that the current DivX 11 application contains this legacy component.
Common causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| “The program can’t start because dpugui10.dll is missing” | The parent DivX application is incomplete | Repair or reinstall that application |
| “The specified module could not be found” | The DLL may be present, but a dependency is missing | Reinstall the parent program and inspect its folder and event logs |
| “The file dpugui10.dll is missing or corrupted” | The file was deleted, quarantined, or damaged | Check Defender Protection history, then repair or reinstall |
| The error started after antivirus activity | Quarantine or removal | Verify the source before restoring anything |
| The DLL exists but the program still will not start | Wrong build, missing dependency, or old-app incompatibility | Use the matching installer and check compatibility |
| The error began after uninstalling DivX | A shortcut, startup entry, or associated program still expects the DLL | Remove or reinstall the program that displays the error |
| A program reports an entry-point error | An incompatible DLL build was used | Remove the replacement and reinstall the matching application |
Error 0xc000007b appears |
Architecture or dependency mismatch is possible | Reinstall the parent application; do not mix random 32-bit and 64-bit files |
Fix 1: Identify the program that needs dpugui10.dll
Do this before downloading or replacing anything.
- Read the complete error dialog. Note the program name shown in the title bar or message.
- Right-click the program’s shortcut and select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, check Target. This identifies the executable being launched.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Look for the program’s own uninstall entry:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for DivX, Dr. DivX, or the application named in the error.
- If the program closes too quickly to identify it, open Event Viewer:
- Press
Win+X. - Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time of the failed launch.
- Check Faulting application name and Faulting module name.
The requesting executable is more important than the DLL’s location. If the error comes from a non-DivX application, do not assume that installing a newer DivX release will repair it.
Fix 2: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Windows Security may have removed the DLL. Do not restore it automatically, because a quarantined file may be damaged, altered, or from an untrusted installer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections around the time the error began.
- Expand any entry referring to the affected DivX application or
dpugui10.dll. - Check the detection name, file path, and action taken.
- Restore the file only when all of the following are true:
- It came from an original or official DivX installer.
- The installation source is trusted.
- A current scan does not identify the file as malicious.
- You understand that restoring it may cause Windows Security to detect it again.
If the file came from a random DLL download page, do not restore it. Remove that copy and reinstall the parent application from a trusted source instead.
If Defender removed a legitimate file from an authentic installation, reinstalling the application is usually safer than manually approving an isolated DLL.
Fix 3: Repair the affected application
Some Windows applications provide a repair command.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the DivX-era program named by the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the program again.
A successful repair should recreate the application’s own files and allow the original executable to launch. It should not require you to copy dpugui10.dll into a Windows system folder.

Fix 4: Reinstall the matching legacy DivX application
This is the most likely definitive fix because dpugui10.dll belongs to an application rather than to Windows.
First preserve any projects or custom settings that the old program stores outside its installation folder.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for the affected DivX product.
- Select its three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- If it is not listed there, open:
- Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features
- Select the matching DivX application and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Obtain the same product from its original installer or the official DivX legacy downloads page.
- Run the installer.
- If Windows asks for permission, select Yes.
- Use the installer’s default application folder unless the program’s documentation requires another location.
- Restart Windows again if the installer requests it.
- Launch the original program from its installed shortcut.
If the installer offers repair rather than removal, choose repair first. If the error returns after reinstalling, confirm that the shortcut points to the newly installed executable rather than an old copy on another drive.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

There is no verified evidence that current DivX 11 installs dpugui10.dll.
Fix 5: Verify the file and its architecture
A historical dpugui10.dll record identifies a 32-bit Win32 DLL, but multiple DivX-era builds existed. The correct file is the one supplied with the matching application.
To inspect a file already present:
- Right-click
dpugui10.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Review File description, Product name, Company, and File version.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if one is present.
- Compare the location with the application’s installation folder.
A 32-bit application normally needs its 32-bit DLL and compatible dependencies. Do not copy the file into both C:WindowsSystem32 and C:WindowsSysWOW64. Despite their names, those folders serve different Windows architectures, and placing an application DLL there can affect unrelated programs or create loading and security problems.
The normal location is usually the folder containing the executable that needs the DLL. Windows searches application locations according to its DLL loading rules. A file in the wrong folder may not be used, even when a copy exists elsewhere.
Fix 6: Determine whether a dependency is missing
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that dpugui10.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by that DLL.

Check the application directory for other files that were removed at the same time. Also review Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application for a related error.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET automatically just because a DLL error appeared. There is no verified evidence that one of those runtimes specifically provides dpugui10.dll. Install a runtime only when the application’s installer or an identified error names it.
If the dependency is unclear, reinstalling the parent DivX application is safer than assembling individual DLLs from different releases.
Fix 7: Use System Restore if the failure is recent
System Restore is appropriate when the program worked recently and the problem began immediately after an installation, update, cleanup operation, or system change.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next > Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can roll back programs, drivers, and system settings. It does not guarantee recovery of a specific third-party DLL, so reinstall the parent application if the error remains.
Fix 8: Repair broader Windows corruption
Use Windows repair commands only when other Windows components are also failing. These commands are not a replacement for the DivX installer and should not be expected to restore a third-party DLL.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Try the affected program again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks and repairs protected Windows files. If both commands complete successfully but the DivX error remains, return to the parent application’s installer rather than repeating the commands.

Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows problems and show what it finds; repair actions are handled by the full version, and reinstalling the affected DivX program remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.
Fix 9: Review driver changes only if the timing points there
dpugui10.dll is not a device driver, and there is no verified evidence that a particular graphics, audio, or chipset driver supplies it. Do not begin by updating drivers unless the failure started immediately after a driver change or the affected program also reports display or audio problems.

To roll back a recent driver:
- Press
Win+X. - Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Media devices.
- Double-click the recently changed device.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver if available.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
To update a driver manually:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
Driver hunting can mean checking many devices and guessing which version changed. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers; installation is handled by the full version, but a driver update is not a substitute for reinstalling the DivX application.

regsvr32 is not a general DLL repair command. It is intended for libraries that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain ActiveX or COM components.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
There is no reliable public evidence that dpugui10.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX library. Running commands such as these is therefore not a normal repair step:
regsvr32 dpugui10.dll
regsvr32 /u dpugui10.dll
regsvr32 /i dpugui10.dll
They can produce another error without fixing the missing dependency or application installation. Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor explicitly instructs you to register this file.
Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
Avoid downloading dpugui10.dll from an unverified DLL website and copying it into System32 or SysWOW64.
That approach can fail because:
- The file may contain malware or unwanted modifications.
- The build may belong to a different DivX release.
- A 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch may create another loader error.
- The DLL may depend on other missing files.
- Replacing one file does not repair a damaged installation.
- A system-folder copy can affect unrelated applications and increase DLL hijacking risk.
Use the original DivX installer, the official DivX legacy archive, or a trusted backup of the complete application installation. The correct repair is normally a matching application package, not an isolated file.

If the original application still cannot start:
- Confirm that the shortcut launches the newly installed executable.
- Check whether
dpugui10.dllis present in that application’s folder. - Review Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history again.
- Compare the application’s file properties and version information.
- Run the program’s executable as administrator:
- Right-click its shortcut.
- Select Properties > Compatibility.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply > OK.
- Try Properties > Compatibility > Run this program in compatibility mode for and select an older Windows version only if the application requires it.
- Check Event Viewer for a missing dependency or entry-point error.
- Contact DivX support if the original installer is unavailable.
An old program may remain incompatible with a current Windows release even after its DLL is restored. If that happens, use the newest supported DivX software, a suitable compatibility setting, or a different media application rather than continuing to replace individual DLLs.

Should I put it in System32?
No. The correct location is usually the folder containing the application that needs it. Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64.
Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public records describe the commonly reported file as a 32-bit Win32 DLL. Historical records show multiple builds, so use the architecture and version supplied with the parent application.
Why does Windows say the module is missing when the file exists?
A dependency of dpugui10.dll may be missing or incompatible. Reinstall the parent application and inspect Event Viewer rather than downloading more DLLs.
Should I restore it from antivirus quarantine?
Only if it came from a trusted, authentic DivX installer and current security checks support restoring it. Otherwise, reinstall the application.
Will SFC or DISM restore this file?
Usually not. They repair protected Windows components, while dpugui10.dll is a third-party DivX file.
