To download a Scratch project, open it in the Scratch editor, choose File, then select Save to your computer. To edit that local copy later, open Scratch and choose File > Load from your computer.

Save a Scratch project to your computer

  1. Open the project in the Scratch editor. Scratch documents the local-save process from within the editor, so this is the supported route.

In older Scratch help, the same local-save option is called Download to your computer: Scratch Help: Saving a project. If you do not see the older wording, look for the current label in the File menu.

Local download versus saving online

Workflow Where the saved copy is kept Sign-in in the documented workflow
Save to your computer On your computer Scratch’s help describes this as a local-download alternative.
Save online On Scratch’s online service Scratch says users need to join or sign in to save a project online: Scratch: Getting Started.

These are separate save routes. The sign-in requirement Scratch describes applies to saving online; it does not establish whether sign-in is required to download every project, or whether any public project can be downloaded directly from its project page. For a documented local copy, open the project in the editor and use its File menu.

Use Scratch without an internet connection

Scratch’s getting-started guide says Scratch can be downloaded for offline use, particularly for people with an older operating system or unreliable internet access. For current installation details, use Scratch’s official download page. The offline app and saving a project to your computer are related but distinct: use the editor’s File menu to save the local project copy.
