DotGhostBoard 2.0.0 “Cerberus” adds a dedicated Vault for longer-term secrets alongside its Linux clipboard history. The project describes the Vault as a locally stored, encrypted feature using AES-256-GCM and a key derived from a master password. Those are project-reported implementation details—not evidence of an independent security audit or a guarantee that secrets are safe from malware or a compromised desktop session.
What Cerberus adds to DotGhostBoard
The project describes DotGhostBoard as a native Linux clipboard manager that saves clipboard material locally. Its ordinary history features include capture, search, pins, tags, and collections. The v2.0.0 “Cerberus” release record adds a Vault interface and secret detection, broadening the app from clipboard-history management to a tool that also presents a separate place for longer-term secrets. Project materials describe the Vault as an isolated database with envelope encryption. The engineering article says Vault entries use AES-256-GCM and describes temporary reveal and master-password-related key handling. In broad terms, AES-GCM is an authenticated encryption mode: it is designed to protect encrypted data from disclosure and detect certain forms of tampering. The project’s description does not, by itself, establish that the implementation is correct or that secrets remain protected in every operating condition. Project engineering article

- USB-C 2-in-1 storage OTG: The Lexar JumpDrive Dual Drive D40E features USB Type-A and Type-C connectors in a slim, portable form factor for easy device compatibility
- Transfer speeds up to 100MB/s: Based on internal testing, performance may vary depending upon the host device, interface, and usage conditions. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes
- Plug and Play: Widely compatible with USB Type-C smartphones, tablets, laptops, Macs, and traditional Type-A devices, no software installation required. The 360° swivel design allows for easy switching between connectors without the hassle of losing a cap
- Durable & Compact: The Lexar D40E USB memory stick features a metal enclosure, withstands temperatures from 0° to 50° C (32°F to 122°F), and is lightweight at 26g with dimensions of 70.4 x 16.9 x 11.7mm
- Security & Warranty: Securely protects files using an advanced security software solution with 256-bit AES encryption. Backed by a Lexar 3-year limited warranty
The repository identifies SQLite as the application’s local data store. The project also documents network-sync features in its broader product history, but that should not be conflated with the Vault’s described local-storage design. The available material does not establish that the Vault is end-to-end encrypted or synchronized across devices.
What the security claims do—and do not—mean
Encryption at rest can help protect stored Vault data, but it is only one part of a security picture. A password-derived key can be affected by the quality of the password and the details of the derivation process; the available project description does not supply enough information to assess those implementation choices independently.

- Compromised desktop: Malware or an attacker controlling the logged-in user session may be able to interact with the application or capture secrets when they are revealed.
- Clipboard exposure: Clipboard managers and other desktop applications may encounter copied content outside the Vault. A separate Vault does not automatically change how clipboard consumers handle data.
- Screen and memory exposure: Revealing a secret can expose it to screenshots or other software observing the screen. The project describes temporary reveal, but the available material does not establish reliable memory erasure.
- Backups and dependencies: Copies of local data and compromised software dependencies can affect security. Naming an encryption algorithm does not resolve those broader risks.
The project repository associates the v2.0.0 “Cerberus” roadmap entry with 470 tests. This is a project-published test count, not a coverage percentage, external audit, or independent assessment of the cryptography. Project repository

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should consider it
DotGhostBoard is relevant to Linux users who want searchable clipboard history and a separately presented Vault in one desktop application. The project documents useful history organization features and a stated local encryption design, but the available evidence does not provide an independent security review, supported-distribution compatibility matrix, or controlled performance comparison. Users deciding whether to entrust it with sensitive information should weigh those limits alongside their own desktop threat model.
