Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYes, Doom can be seen on a Vectrex in a new demo, but the original console is not doing the game processing: an Ultimate Vectrex Multicart 2 (UVMC2) handles that work, while the Vectrex monitor displays the output. The footage, reported by Time Extension in October 2026, shows smooth vector imagery that evokes Tron; that comparison describes the look, not the demo’s technical category.
How the Doom demo works
Jason Kopp, known as ArcadeJason, built the demo. Time Extension reports that the UVMC2 performs the processing and the Vectrex serves as the display. Audio is sent through a 3.5 mm jack. The game build uses an SDK designed by Daniel Ferrer Guerrero.

So “Doom on the Vectrex” is a useful shorthand for what the footage shows, but it does not mean the Vectrex’s built-in computing hardware natively runs the game. The report does not provide performance benchmarks or a hands-on comparison with other setups.

What the footage does—and does not—establish
The coverage presents a demo, not an announced retail game release. It does not establish that a downloadable build is generally available, or that the UVMC2 is currently in stock or for sale. The report identifies the hardware used, but does not verify a current price or retailer.
#1 Best Overall
The Tron comparison is a visual analogy: the report describes smooth vector visuals. It is not a technical label attributed to Kopp or Ferrer Guerrero.
How this differs from the earlier Voom project
Vectrex enthusiasts may recall Voom, a separate project described by Vectrex.co.uk in 2015 as a wireframe renderer for a Doom level. That historical report mentioned hidden-line removal and an interactive 3D perspective, and said it was then unknown whether the demo would become a game. Voom is not the 2026 demo, and details about its code and data do not describe the newer build.

Vectrex development tools are a separate path
Vectrex Studio’s downloads page lists its IDE v0.3.0 and SDK v1.3, and says its starter kit runs on the Vectrex Studio Debug Cart and UVMC2. Those are Vectrex Studio’s listed tools, not the SDK that Time Extension identifies as being used for the Doom build. Tool versions can change; consult the page for its current listings.
See Vectrex Studio’s downloads.
For a reader considering a Vectrex project, the practical question is where processing happens, what hardware displays the result, how audio is connected, and whether the chosen cart and SDK support the intended setup. The available reporting does not compare the demo’s performance with other Vectrex hardware or development options.
