Yes, DOOM has been made to run on an Android Auto display—but the reported setup is a hands-on build, not a simple download, and it is for use only while the car is parked. How-To Geek’s Joe Fedewa reported compiling DOOM Mobile, a C# port of the 1993 game, into an Android APK, installing it on his phone, then launching it through Android Auto.
How DOOM appeared on the Android Auto screen
In a report published September 11, 2026, Fedewa described using DOOM Mobile, a cross-platform C# implementation of the original game. He compiled the project as an APK and installed it on his phone; afterward, the app appeared in the Android Auto launcher and worked with touch controls in his setup.

The report says the project’s Releases tab did not offer a ready-to-install APK. That means reproducing the demonstration involves building the app rather than simply installing a published Android Auto game. Fedewa identified Microsoft Visual Studio with the .NET Multi-platform App UI workload or JetBrains Rider as build options. The report does not provide evidence that the same build works across other phones, vehicles, or Android Auto versions.
What the port needs to run
DOOM Mobile is described as a native C# port, not an emulator or wrapper. The article says it supports Android, iPhone, Windows, and Mac Catalyst. Its technical description attributes rendering to hardware-accelerated SkiaSharp v3 integrated with DrawnUI for .NET MAUI: game and level calculations run in C#, while a rendered texture is sent through a shader for GPU-side processing.

- Ultra-Compact & Flush-Fit – Clean Look, No Clutter Teeran Android Auto & CarPlay wireless adapter comes in a compact, space-saving design, about the size of a U.S. dollar coin, helping keep your car interior neat and clutter-free. The tapered design plugs in tightly and sits flush with the USB port. Once installed, the device is nearly invisible—no dangling wires, no bulky clutter, no loose connections. Includes both USB-A and USB-C extension cables to fit hidden or angled ports in different car layouts.
- Smarter & Safer – Built for Real-World Driving Designed to handle everyday use, this Android CarPlay adapter offers efficient heat dissipation vents and is certified to operate between -20°C to 70°C. Built-in protection helps prevent overheating, short circuits, and voltage surges—reducing concerns about performance or safety on long summer drives. Tested for vibration resistance to support stable performance on bumpy roads.
A DOOM data file with the .wad extension is needed to play beyond the short demo. The report does not establish that the project supplies that data file, so having the app alone may not be enough for a full game session.
Android Auto’s parked-game rules
Google’s Android for Cars guidance sets Android 15 or later as the requirement for parked-game support on Android Auto. Games are currently the only parked-app category supported there. Google announced in September 2026 that the games category had moved from beta to general availability; that platform change does not establish that DOOM Mobile is approved for Google Play distribution.

- Requires Android 11+
- Multifunctional button for easy phone pairing and switching
- Connects unlimited phones, perfect for road trips
- Plug & play setup, no tech skills needed
Parked means the vehicle is not in motion. In a September 21, 2026 Android Developers Blog post, Developer Relations Engineer Jan Kleinert wrote: “Certain types of apps, like games, are considered parked apps and aren’t permitted to run while the vehicle is in motion to avoid driver distraction.” Treat this demonstration as something to try only when safely parked, never while driving.
What the demonstration does—and does not—prove
- Demonstrated: Fedewa reported that his compiled DOOM Mobile APK appeared in Android Auto and ran with touch controls.
- Not established: Compatibility across phone models, car systems, or Android Auto versions. One reported setup is not a general compatibility guarantee.
- Not a ready-made install: The article says the project did not provide a ready APK in its Releases tab; the author built and installed one.
- Not for use in motion: Google’s parked-app rules prohibit games from running while the vehicle is moving.
So the appeal is mostly the novelty of seeing a classic game on a car display. Getting there requires developer tooling and a build, and the result belongs in a safely parked vehicle—not in the driving routine.
