Deadlock could use a haunted parking attendant, a subway-line oracle, and a bodega cat with a supernatural territory problem. These unofficial pitches take recognizable city characters and turn their everyday routines into combat identities; they are ideas, not existing heroes or predictions about Valve’s plans.
Three unofficial Deadlock hero concepts
The Meter Maid
Hook: A municipal parking attendant who writes citations that reality itself has to obey.

Look and inspiration: Picture a compact figure in a weather-beaten city uniform, reflective stripes catching the light, with a ticket book that unfolds into a long, rigid warding baton. A ring of numbered tags hangs at the belt like charms. She is less a cop than a grim custodian of the curb: the person who knows exactly which spaces the city has already claimed.
Proposed play identity: A control specialist who marks a patch of ground as a temporary no-parking zone. Enemies who dash or teleport through it could be briefly slowed or revealed, while allies might use the marked area as a safer lane to reposition. Her ticket throws could tag one target; a follow-up hit would “fine” them with a short-lived debuff. The counterplay is clear: avoid the marked ground, or force her to spend her control tools before committing.

Personality and story tension: She insists she is only enforcing the rules, even when the rules are written by something much older and stranger than city hall. The joke is that she has immense supernatural authority over a very small patch of public space—and takes every violation personally.
The Last-Stop Conductor
Hook: A subway conductor who can send enemies down a route that does not appear on any map.
Look and inspiration: A tall, narrow silhouette in an old conductor’s coat, with a brass punch and a signal lamp that glows like a departing train’s last window. Strips of destination lettering trail from the sleeves, changing as the character moves. The design draws on the uncanny intimacy of late-night transit: the empty platform, the announcement no one else hears, the train that arrives after service ends.

Proposed play identity: A mobility and displacement hero. The conductor could lay a short “line” between two points; allies crossing it gain a burst of movement, while enemies caught on it are tugged toward its endpoint. A slower, more deliberate ability might mark one opponent with a destination and pull them a limited distance when the conductor completes a route. That makes positioning—not raw damage—the central skill, with visible tracks giving opponents a chance to break away or avoid the route.
Personality and story tension: He announces every ability as if it were a routine service update, even when the destination is a nightmare. He may be trying to get home, but the route keeps adding stops for passengers who were never alive.
The Bodega Familiar
Hook: A corner-store cat that has become the small, smug god of its block.

Look and inspiration: The cat itself is an unmistakable, low-to-the-ground silhouette, perched atop a rolling stack of canned goods or riding a wobbling crate like a throne. Its shadow stretches into a many-eyed alley creature. Plastic bags, receipt paper, and a little bell become supernatural ornaments without hiding the fact that this is still a cat that expects to be fed on schedule.
Proposed play identity: A scout and area-denial specialist. It could send its shadow through nearby passages to reveal a brief sightline, then call the shadow back to pounce on a marked target. A stash ability might place a few cans around a fight; the cat can bat them into opponents to interrupt or briefly slow them. Its strongest moments would come from knowing the neighborhood and setting up ambushes, while its small body and limited reach keep it vulnerable when caught in open ground.
Personality and story tension: It treats every resident as staff and every rival as an intruder. The block’s people may believe it protects them; the cat’s own understanding of protection could amount to keeping everyone exactly where it wants them.

What makes these pitches feel at home in Deadlock?
Each concept starts with something ordinary and local, then lets the supernatural twist grow out of that object or routine: parking rules become territory control, a transit route becomes displacement, and a shop cat’s neighborhood dominion becomes scouting and ambush. PC Gamer’s October 2026 feature interprets recent heroes through New York cues such as park chess, pigeons, and rats; that is the publication’s reading of the setting, not a stated Valve design rule. PC Gamer’s feature on Deadlock’s New York influences.
The pitches also aim for distinct silhouettes and fight roles rather than just unusual costumes. Their abilities are proposals, not descriptions of playable characters. Valve has previously invited early feedback: its October 2024 update described Hero Labs as a way to gather player feedback while heroes were in very early phases. Valve’s October 24, 2024 update.

There is a documented precedent, but it should not be mistaken for an open submission program. In August 2025, Valve said it was pausing Hero Labs while developing a set of six heroes. It then used staggered unlocks and a voting booth in the Hideout, asking players, “Who do you want to see unlocked next?” That was a way to vote on the release order of those heroes—not evidence that Valve currently accepts unsolicited character pitches. Valve’s “Six New Heroes” update.
PC Gamer has also reported that Rat King began as a fan concept before joining Deadlock’s roster. That is an individual reported precedent, not proof of a formal route for new ideas or a promise that another fan concept will be adopted. PC Gamer’s report on Rat King’s origins and voice lines.
Where can players share a character idea?
The official Deadlock forums show Community Hero Ideas and Art Feedback sections, which are natural places to look for community discussion. Their existence does not establish that Valve is soliciting submissions or that a posted concept will be considered for the roster. Deadlock’s official forums.
For a pitch that is easy to understand, make the core idea legible in a few parts: the city-life or folklore hook, a memorable silhouette, one gameplay mechanic that creates a recognizable fight decision, and a personality or story complication. Those are useful creative choices, not official Valve evaluation criteria.
