Yes—YouTube Live accepts AV1 for 4K/2160p at 60 fps in SDR. YouTube’s current encoder settings give AV1/H.265 a bitrate range of 10–40 Mbps at that resolution and frame rate. AV1 is not supported for HDR; YouTube’s HDR guidance specifies H.265/HEVC instead.
AV1 4K60 settings for YouTube Live
YouTube’s live encoder settings list AV1 as an accepted video codec and frame rates up to 60 fps. The settings relevant to an AV1 4K60 SDR stream are:

These are the values on YouTube’s settings page; it does not display a publication or revision year, so check the page before configuring a new encoder. The page’s 35 Mbps recommendation for 4K/2160p 60 fps is for H.264, not AV1.
AV1 support does not include HDR
YouTube’s encoder settings explicitly state, “AV1 is not supported for HDR.” Its HDR streaming guidance says YouTube Live HDR is currently supported only with H.265 (HEVC). Choose AV1 for a 4K60 SDR stream; if your production must be HDR, use an encoder and workflow that meet YouTube’s HEVC requirements instead.

What to check in an AV1 encoder
- Confirm that the encoder can output AV1 at 3840×2160 and 60 fps, rather than assuming that 4K or AV1 support individually guarantees the combination.
- Check that it exposes the bitrate and CBR controls needed for YouTube’s stated range, plus a two-second keyframe interval.
- For 4K or higher AV1 output, verify that the encoder can provide at least two tile columns.
- Ensure the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate consistently. The bitrate range is not a guarantee that a particular internet connection or encoder will deliver a stable stream.
- Use RTMPS where available, as YouTube recommends it.
YouTube’s encoder overview describes software and standalone hardware encoders, but its examples of products supporting 4K60 do not establish AV1 4K60 capability. Verify the exact codec, resolution, frame rate, tiling, and bitrate controls in a device’s own specifications before buying or relying on it.
