Not through a published daily-hours cap. YouTube says a channel may be limited in how many live streams it can create during a 24-hour period, but its help page does not state the number. Separately, streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured in the archive, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. Those are archive and playback caveats—not a rule that a stream must stop at 12 hours.
What YouTube’s daily limit actually covers
YouTube’s Live streaming error messages page says: “To help make YouTube safer for everyone, we limit how many live streams a channel can create in a 24-hour period.” It does not publish a numeric stream-count limit. The restriction described is about creating streams within a 24-hour period, not a stated total number of hours a channel may broadcast.

YouTube’s guidance does not establish that switching between mobile, webcam, or encoder streaming changes this channel-level limit. Those are different ways to produce a live stream, not documented workarounds for the creation limit.

Why 12 hours comes up
Automatic archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. Its Archive live streams guidance warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” This is a risk to the replay, not a stated requirement to end a stream at 12 hours.

DVR rewind
For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable, according to YouTube’s Turn on DVR on live streams guidance. Treat this separately from both the daily stream-creation limit and archive capture.
How to plan a stream longer than 12 hours
- Keep a local recording backup. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup; do not rely on YouTube to preserve a stream that exceeds 12 hours.
- Set replay expectations. Viewers may not be able to watch a complete archive afterward, and DVR rewind may not work throughout the stream.
- Choose the production method for your setup. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder livestreaming. Its YouTube live streaming tips discuss methods and equipment; none is presented as a way around the daily creation limit.
If YouTube says you reached the daily limit
YouTube’s Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming guidance says to try again in 24 hours. That is its retry advice; it does not specify an exact reset time or publish the number of streams that triggers the restriction.
