Technically, yes: an encoder can send a prerecorded video to YouTube Live repeatedly. But YouTube’s published guidance does not give blanket approval for every stream that loops the same video, nor does it categorically ban all such streams. A working broadcast is not automatically compliant or eligible for monetization: channel access, copyright and other rights, Community Guidelines, and monetization policies still apply.
What “looping a video in a live stream” means
A live stream is a feed transmitted to YouTube by an encoder. To loop a recording, the encoder or streaming service must send the video repeatedly as the live feed. Replaying a regular YouTube upload in a browser or using a watch-page repeat control does not turn it into a live broadcast.

YouTube’s documentation explains how to configure an encoder with a stream URL and stream key, and describes software encoding programs as one way to go live. It does not document a YouTube watch-page feature that turns an uploaded video into a looping livestream. Manage live stream settings · YouTube live streaming tips

In the Live Streaming API, a liveStream resource contains delivery settings for the encoder, while a liveBroadcast represents the event viewers see. That distinction describes the technical workflow; it is not a ruling on whether a particular repeated video complies with YouTube policy. What YouTube’s guidance does—and does not—say
YouTube’s official guidance reviewed for this article covers encoder-based live streaming and general rules for live content and monetization. It does not expressly settle every case involving a prerecorded video repeated in a live feed. The careful answer is therefore neither “YouTube approves every 24/7 loop” nor “YouTube bans looping”: assess the content, rights, channel eligibility, and monetization separately.
Check channel eligibility before setting up the encoder
YouTube’s live-streaming tips say a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check access in YouTube Studio before preparing a continuous broadcast. If live streaming is unavailable or restricted, an encoder or hosting service cannot override that channel-level restriction. Use content you have the right to broadcast
YouTube’s livestream terms require compliance with its Community Guidelines and the rights needed to use the live content on Google services. Use footage, music, images, and other material you created or have permission to broadcast in this specific context. Owning a copy of a song or video, or being able to play it, does not by itself establish that you have livestreaming rights. Livestream terms and conditions
Copyright matching can interrupt a licensed stream
YouTube says it scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If a match remains after a warning, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube also notes that a licence may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. If you have permission, ask the rights holder whether your channel needs to be allowlisted, and keep documentation of the permission. Copyright issues with live streams

Monetization is a separate decision
Being able to start a loop does not guarantee that YouTube will monetize it. YouTube applies its monetization policies to live streams. Its policy describes repetitive or mass-produced content as inauthentic and says monetized content should be original and offer viewer value. Repeating the same recording may therefore create monetization risk, but the policy does not establish that every repeated live feed is automatically rejected. Eligibility and review depend on the channel and its content under YouTube’s policies. YouTube channel monetization policies (clarified July 15, 2025)

The broad workflow is an encoder-based one. YouTube’s cited guidance establishes the use of a stream URL and key, but does not prescribe a particular looping program or a universal set of encoder settings for every video and connection. Choose an encoder or service that can repeat your recording, then follow its current instructions rather than guessing at settings.

- Confirm that your channel is verified and eligible for live streaming, and that you have rights to every part of the recording.
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream and retrieve the stream URL and stream key in the stream settings. Treat the key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- In your encoder, select the recording and configure it to repeat. Enter the YouTube stream URL and key as the encoder’s destination, following the encoder’s own instructions.
- Start transmission from the encoder and check the YouTube live control room preview and stream status before making the event public. Confirm that video and audio are present and that the feed remains stable.
- Monitor the broadcast, including for YouTube copyright warnings or interruptions. Stop the stream if you receive a warning or discover that you lack the necessary rights; do not assume that restarting resolves a policy or rights issue.
Keep the encoder running locally, or use a cloud service
With a local software encoder, the computer and its internet connection have to remain available for the duration of the stream. That gives you direct control over the sending setup, but also leaves you responsible for keeping the machine online and recovering the broadcast if the connection or stream fails. YouTube documents the encoder workflow; it does not endorse a particular provider.
