On desktop, drag an entry into position; on Android, press and hold its handle and drag it. YouTube says reordering is unavailable for playlists containing only Shorts.
What YouTube lets you do
Sorting by upload date and manually reordering a playlist are different actions. YouTube’s computer instructions and Android instructions explain how to change an entry’s position by dragging it. They do not document an automatic chronological sort for an existing playlist.

A YouTube Help Community Product Expert also says there is no automatic date-order option and suggests rearranging entries manually. That is community guidance, rather than a formal product specification. You can read the discussion in “Date ordering of videos”.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Reorder a playlist on desktop
- Open the playlist on YouTube.
- Click and hold near the video’s or Short’s thumbnail.
- Drag the entry up or down to the position you want, then release it.
This changes the playlist’s order manually; it does not sort entries by their upload dates.

Reorder a playlist on Android
- Open the playlist in the YouTube app.
- Press and hold the two-line handle beside the video or Short.
- Drag the entry up or down to its new position.
YouTube says reordering is not available when a playlist contains only Shorts. If you do not see a usable reorder control, check whether the playlist is Shorts-only.
What about YouTube Studio?
YouTube Studio offers playlist creation and management controls. Its computer help page describes choosing an arrangement while creating a playlist and using drag-and-drop when managing one. It does not establish an automatic upload-date sort for an existing playlist, so Studio should not be treated as a way to apply that sort.

Finding uploads by date is a separate task
Browsing a creator’s channel videos or using YouTube search filters is separate from changing the order of videos already in a playlist. A community response suggests channel-video browsing as an alternative way to find uploads, but that is not a playlist sorting feature, and available date controls may change.

Practical workaround for chronological order
If you need a playlist in date order, identify the videos and arrange them manually using the desktop or Android steps above. For a long playlist, work in small batches and check the resulting order as you go. YouTube’s documented controls do not supply a one-click upload-date sort for an existing playlist.
