Yes. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 has no built-in storage for captured footage, so you need a microSD card to record and save video. For most buyers, a 256GB Kingston Canvas Go! Plus is a sensible starting choice: DJI lists that exact card, though 256GB is a practical recommendation rather than DJI’s universal ideal capacity.
Does the Osmo Pocket 3 need a microSD card?
Yes. DJI says the Osmo Pocket 3 “does not have built-in storage and requires a microSD card for storing captured footage.” A card is therefore required to save footage recorded with the camera.

DJI recommends a card rated at least UHS-I Speed Grade 3 for optimal transfer speed. Check both the speed rating and the exact card model against DJI’s support and recommended-card information before buying.

A good default is the Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 256GB. DJI includes that model and capacity on its recommended list. The 256GB choice is editorial guidance for a typical buyer, not a claim that DJI considers it best for everyone.

DJI’s current list includes cards from multiple brands and in multiple capacities; it does not require one particular brand. Its supported-capacity limit is up to 1TB. Here are options DJI lists and when they may make sense:
| Option | DJI-listed card | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Practical default | Kingston Canvas Go! Plus, 256GB | A reasonable balance for typical recording and file-transfer habits. |
| More capacity | Kingston Canvas Go! Plus, 512GB; or Lexar SILVER PLUS, 1TB | For longer recording plans or less frequent transfers. DJI supports cards up to 1TB. |
| Smaller capacity | SanDisk Extreme Pro, 32GB V30 A1 UHS-I Speed Grade 3 | A DJI-listed option if you are comfortable transferring footage or changing cards more often. |
These model and capacity recommendations come from DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 FAQ. A speed rating above DJI’s stated minimum is not, by itself, evidence that the camera will perform better.

Is 256GB enough for the Osmo Pocket 3?
It depends on how much you record between transfers and how often you want to swap cards. DJI does not specify one ideal capacity or publish a universal recording-duration table for each card size, so there is no reliable single number of hours that applies to every setup.
DJI lists a maximum video bitrate of 130 Mbps in its Osmo Pocket 3 User Manual v1.0, dated October 2023. At that bitrate, the data rate converts to approximately 58.5GB per hour before file-system overhead. That is a calculation from the maximum bitrate, not a DJI recording-time estimate; actual file sizes vary with recording settings and footage.

How to choose the right capacity
- Choose 256GB as a practical starting point if you want a balance between storage and transfer frequency.
- Consider 512GB or 1TB if you routinely record a lot before offloading files or prefer fewer card changes.
- A smaller card can work if you are willing to transfer footage or swap cards more often.
- Before purchase, confirm that the exact model is on DJI’s current recommended list and that it meets DJI’s minimum UHS-I Speed Grade 3 guidance.
