SingleFile has an option to save content that loads while scrolling, but its documentation describes the feature as best effort—not a guarantee. It works best when scrolling reveals or fetches content that remains part of the page; it cannot recover items a site has removed from the document before the capture.
How to capture content that loads as you scroll
- Load the page you want to save, then open SingleFile’s options and enable save content loaded while scrolling. The option is intended to expose deferred images, frames, and other content before saving. SingleFile says it may also save images without requiring you to scroll through the page manually, but the process takes additional time and may not work on every site. SingleFile’s help documentation describes it as best effort.
- If the site reveals content in response to scroll events, enable simulate scrolling as well and save again. Simulated events can cause unexpected scrolling behavior on some pages; disable the option if it disrupts the page.
- For a very long page or an infinite virtual list, try zoom out the page during the capture. This can help in some cases, but inspect the saved file to confirm that the sections you need are present.
These settings increase the chance of capturing deferred material; they do not ensure that every page will load or preserve all of it.
Lazy loading and virtualization are different problems
Deferred or lazy-loaded content
A page may wait until an image, frame, or section approaches the viewport before fetching or revealing it. Scrolling—or a page’s scroll listener—triggers that work. SingleFile’s deferred-content option and simulated scrolling are intended to help expose this type of material before capture.
Virtualized content
A virtualized list or conversation may remove offscreen items from the document and create them again only when they return to view. In that case, a capture sees only what is present in the page at capture time. SingleFile’s guide to saving AI chat conversations explains that capture alone cannot restore messages that are absent from the page; use the site’s own controls or an appropriate interaction method to make the needed items render before saving. Why a saved page may not behave like the original
Capturing content does not necessarily preserve its interactivity. Folding titles, dynamic maps, and carousels can depend on JavaScript. SingleFile’s FAQ says scripts are removed by default because they can alter rendering and may not work offline; it documents settings for retaining scripts when needed. Keeping scripts may be appropriate for some pages, but it can change how the saved file renders. Consult SingleFile’s FAQ for script-related settings.
Troubleshoot missing or broken content
- Images or sections that appear only after scrolling are missing: enable save content loaded while scrolling, then save again. Allow extra time for deferred content.
- The page responds to manual scrolling but not to the capture: enable simulate scrolling. If the page jumps or behaves unexpectedly, turn it off.
- A long page or infinite list is incomplete: try zoom out the page during the capture, then check the output rather than assuming it worked.
- Older list items or chat messages are absent: determine whether the site virtualizes the list. Scroll through or use a site-specific method to render the items you need; capture cannot include items that are no longer in the document.
- Content is visible, but its controls do not work in the saved file: check whether the controls depend on JavaScript and consult the FAQ’s script settings. Retaining scripts is a tradeoff, not a guarantee of offline functionality.
