No. SanDisk sells several kinds of storage products, including memory cards, USB flash drives, SSDs, commercial removable storage and embedded flash. The confusion is between flash memory, the storage technology, and the different products that use it.
Flash memory is a technology, not one product type
SanDisk’s FY2025 Sustainability Report describes flash memory as storage technology used in different devices, including USB drives, smartphones and computer SSDs. Unlike a hard drive, flash storage has no moving parts and retains files when power is off. Read SanDisk’s FY2025 Sustainability Report.

So if “memory type” means the underlying technology, flash is a useful description. If it means the kind of product you can buy, SanDisk’s portfolio is broader.

Memory cards come in different formats
SanDisk identifies SD and microSD as memory-card types. A microSD card is the smaller format, intended for compact devices such as handheld gaming consoles. A card’s physical format is only one part of whether it will work in a particular device.

Check these details before choosing a card
- Form factor: Confirm whether the device takes SD or microSD.
- Capacity: Check the device’s supported capacity and choose enough space for your files.
- Performance rating: Consider the speed or performance marking needed for the task, such as recording or transferring files.
SanDisk’s memory-card guide explains card formats, capacities and speed markings. Check the device maker’s specifications before buying; a card’s brand alone does not establish compatibility.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen do you need a card reader?
A card reader can help transfer files between a memory card and another device, but it must match both the card format and the connection available on the host device. SanDisk lists readers and accessories alongside its storage products; check those two compatibility points before choosing one.
