Yes. Ohio State provides Wi-Fi in its residence halls through ResNet. Use eduroam for a personal computer, phone, or tablet; register consoles and many streaming or smart devices for Registered4OSU. Residents can also use wired ResNet through an Ethernet connection.
Which network should you use?
Ohio State lists five networks for different purposes. The right choice depends mainly on whether the device can sign in with your university credentials.

- Open wireless.osu.edu and choose Connect to eduroam.
- Sign in with your Ohio State name.# and password, then follow the device-specific onboarding prompts.
- After setup, choose eduroam from the device’s available Wi-Fi networks.
Ohio State’s student device instructions say the configured device uses a digital certificate, which they describe as valid for five years.

October 2026 re-onboarding notice
An Ohio State OTDI notice dated September 28, 2026 asks users of personal phones, tablets, and computers to re-onboard eduroam before October 13, 2026, or their devices may stop connecting. The notice says managed university devices may have different requirements. Because this deadline is time-sensitive, check the current notice and instructions before acting.
Connecting a console or smart device
Devices that cannot authenticate with a university username and password generally need to be registered for Registered4OSU. Follow Ohio State’s registration and device compatibility guidance for the specific model; support can vary by device.

Ohio State’s FAQ says Chromecast cannot stream from a phone, tablet, or computer on the network architecture described there and suggests Roku or Apple TV. That guidance is specific to the FAQ’s stated setup, so check the current compatibility information rather than assuming every device or configuration behaves the same way.
Should you bring an Ethernet cable?
It is sensible to pack one even if you expect to use Wi-Fi. Ohio State recommends a Cat 5e or Cat 6 network cable as a wired backup or for eligible wired devices. If you need more than one wired port, the university says an unmanaged network switch may be connected.

Do not bring a personal router, access point, extender, repeater, or signal booster. Ohio State prohibits these in residence halls because they can interfere with existing network services. Its arrival guidance covers permitted equipment.
What visitors should know about WiFi@OSU
WiFi@OSU is intended for guests and visitors, not as the preferred network for students living in a residence hall. Ohio State says visitors receive 12 hours of uninterrupted access after accepting the terms, then must authenticate again. The network is open and unencrypted; see the university’s guest and visitor instructions.

What to do if a device will not connect
- Confirm you selected the network intended for that device: eduroam for a personal computer, phone, or tablet; Registered4OSU for a registered device that cannot use university credentials.
- Complete eduroam onboarding or device registration as appropriate, then check Ohio State’s compatibility guidance for the device.
- If it still will not connect, contact ResNet. Ohio State lists 24/7 phone support at 614-292-5700 and an online service request during regular business hours. ResNet supports residence-hall wired and wireless connectivity and network-jack installation and maintenance; see its service and support information.
What Ohio State publishes about speed and coverage
Ohio State describes ResNet as a high-speed service and says wired connections offer the highest speed and stability for demanding uses. The official pages cited here do not provide a measured Wi-Fi speed, uptime figure, or room-by-room signal guarantee. Actual performance should not be inferred from the network names or general service descriptions.
