How Norton says it detects Trojans
Norton explicitly lists Trojans among the malware its protection is designed to address. It also describes remote access Trojans (RATs), which can give an attacker a back door into a compromised computer. The precise features available vary across Norton products and platforms.

Norton describes a layered approach that can include scanning files, emulation, machine learning, reputation information, and behavioral protection. Emulation runs a file in a lightweight virtual machine to help reveal its actions. Norton says machine learning can assess a file even if the product has not encountered it before. Can Norton miss a Trojan?
Yes. Norton does not promise perfect detection. Its virus FAQ explains that antivirus vendors process threats on different schedules: another product may sometimes detect a threat before Norton, and Norton may sometimes identify one first. This is Norton’s explanation of detection timing, not a measured comparison or a current detection-rate result. No percentage or head-to-head lab result is established here, so claims that Norton catches every Trojan—or catches them better than competing products—would go beyond the available evidence. Will Norton remove a Trojan?
Norton can quarantine or remove detected malware, but automatic repair is not always possible. Norton’s virus FAQ says Trojans and worms can be difficult to repair automatically because they do not contain clean code that can be restored; some may need manual removal. That is general support guidance, not a diagnosis of a particular device. What Norton’s Mac real-time protection does
Norton’s Mac support documentation says Real-Time Protection uses threat signatures received through virus-definition and other security updates. Auto-Protect checks files when a person or application tries to run, open, or modify them. If it detects a malicious file, Norton says it quarantines the file by default and automatically deletes it. Norton advises keeping real-time protection on. These details apply to the documented Mac product; they should not be assumed to describe every Norton plan or device. What to do if Norton keeps detecting a Trojan
- Open the detection details. Check which file or item Norton identified and what action it took. Available report information can differ by plan, device, and where you view it.
- Follow the product-specific instructions. Use Norton’s current guidance for your device and version instead of applying steps intended for another operating system or plan. Norton’s repeated-detection guidance

- Do not assume one scan will fix a persistent infection. Norton says some Trojans may need manual removal. If detections continue or symptoms persist, follow Norton’s support instructions for the affected device.
