What crossplay means in Monster Hunter
Crossplay, also called cross-platform multiplayer, lets players using different hardware platforms join the same game session. It is different from cross-save or cross-progression, which concerns carrying a save or progress between platforms.

That distinction matters: being able to play together does not mean your character or save can move between systems. Capcom says World save data is unique to each platform and cannot be transferred among its PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions. Does Monster Hunter Wilds have crossplay?
Yes. Capcom lists Monster Hunter Wilds for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and says players can play together regardless of platform. Capcom’s September 25, 2024 announcement confirms the feature. The official online manual explains how to configure it.

How to enable Wilds crossplay
- From the title screen, open Options > Game Settings > Crossplay.
- Set Crossplay to enabled. This is an all-platform setting, not a list where you select individual platforms.
- Ask everyone you want to play with on another platform to enable Crossplay as well. Cross-platform sessions require the setting to be enabled for all players.
When Crossplay is disabled, you can join only players on the same platform who have also disabled it. Capcom’s manual also notes that a malfunction or security issue could temporarily restrict play to the same platform.
What to check before joining friends
- Everyone owns Wilds on a supported platform: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC.
- Everyone has the same Crossplay setting enabled for cross-platform play.
- Check the online-play requirements for your platform and region. PlayStation says PS Plus is required for online play on PS5; requirements and service terms can vary by platform and change over time. PlayStation’s online multiplayer support page has its current requirement.
Crossplay alone does not establish whether progress transfers between Wilds platforms. The cited Capcom material confirms the multiplayer feature, but does not settle Wilds cross-save or cross-progression.

Does Monster Hunter: World have crossplay?
No. Capcom says the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions of Monster Hunter: World do not support crossplay. Each version has cross-region global servers, but that means players can connect across regions within that version; it does not let PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players play together. Capcom Support also confirms that saves are platform-specific and cannot be transferred among those versions.
Is Monster Hunter Rise cross-platform?
Monster Hunter Rise has limited, platform-specific multiplayer compatibility rather than universal crossplay. Capcom’s PS4/PS5 manual says those PlayStation versions can play together, but not with other hardware. Capcom’s platform FAQ separately lists Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows Store as compatible with one another, while listing Steam separately. The FAQ does not establish every possible pairing in every region or edition.

- Steam and Nintendo Switch: The cited sources do not establish universal compatibility between these releases and the platform groups above. For PC, check whether your friend uses Steam or the Windows Store version rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Can PC players play Monster Hunter with console friends?
It depends on the game. In Wilds, PC players can play with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players when everyone enables Crossplay. In World, PC players cannot join the PS4 or Xbox One versions. For Rise, the Windows Store release is listed with Xbox versions, while Steam is distinct; confirm your friend’s storefront and version before assuming compatibility.
Does crossplay mean cross-save?
No. They are separate features. For World, Capcom explicitly says saves are unique to each platform and cannot be transferred among PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The cited materials do not establish the current cross-save or cross-progression policy for Wilds, so do not assume that playing together lets you carry a save between platforms.
