The game is available on several platforms, and Minecraft documents a cross-game Hero Cape reward tied to a Microsoft account—but neither fact confirms that Dungeons II characters, campaign progress, gear, or save files transfer between platforms.
What is confirmed—and what is not
Minecraft’s official Dungeons II overview identifies the game as releasing on September 29, 2026, and lists Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Xbox Wire’s September 26, 2026 platform announcement also names Xbox on PC and cloud availability. These are platform listings, not confirmation that saves sync between platforms.

The official materials reviewed do not explain whether Dungeons II supports cross-progression or cross-saves, which platforms could exchange saves, or whether syncing would be automatic or manual. Treat compatibility as unconfirmed unless an official Minecraft or Mojang update explicitly describes it.
Cross-play, account rewards, and cross-saves are different
- Platform availability means the game is offered on those platforms; it does not establish that a save can move between them.
- Cross-play means players on different platforms can play together. The cited platform announcements do not establish Dungeons II cross-play or cross-saves.
- Cross-game rewards are items earned by meeting conditions across games. Minecraft’s Hero Cape reward article describes an account-linked cosmetic reward, not the transfer of Dungeons II progress.
- Cross-saves or cross-progression would let a player continue with the same game progress on another supported platform. The official Dungeons II sources cited here do not confirm that feature.
What the Hero Cape’s Microsoft-account rule means
Minecraft Help says the Hero Cape is a reward for playing Minecraft Dungeons and then Minecraft Dungeons II with the same Microsoft account. Qualifying Minecraft Dungeons save data must be associated with the account used to play Dungeons II. The article also notes that some platforms may allow play without signing in; that activity may not qualify for the reward.

This is an eligibility rule for a cosmetic reward. It does not say that Dungeons II saves sync across platforms, or that Dungeons II progress can be transferred by signing into the same Microsoft account.
Why the original Dungeons cloud-save guide does not settle this
Minecraft’s Cloud Saves article documents the original Minecraft Dungeons. It describes uploading a Hero and downloading that Hero on another supported device while signed into the same Microsoft account. Because the article covers the first game, its instructions cannot establish how saves work in Dungeons II. Do not assume the sequel uses the same system unless Minecraft publishes Dungeons II-specific guidance.

What to check before switching platforms
- Look for an official Minecraft Help article or Mojang statement that explicitly names Minecraft Dungeons II and describes save syncing.
- Check which source and destination platforms it supports; a feature on one platform pair would not automatically prove compatibility across every listed platform.
- Confirm whether the same Microsoft account is required and whether saves sync automatically or need a manual upload and download.
- Check whether the announcement distinguishes save data from purchases or DLC entitlements. A shared save would not, by itself, establish that paid content transfers.
Does the first game need to be played first?
No. Minecraft’s Dungeons II overview says, “You don’t need to play the first Minecraft Dungeons to play Minecraft Dungeons II, but you might get a better experience out of the sequel if you do!” That addresses whether the original game is required; it is not a statement about transferring saves.
