Short answer: Steam lists Masters of Albion as single-player and currently marks it Unsupported on Steam Deck. Steam Input and Deck trackpad support have been reported, but the game relies heavily on mouse-style controls; support for a particular external controller, such as an Xbox controller, is not confirmed by the available sources.
Does Masters of Albion support controllers?
There is evidence for configurable controller-style input through Steam Input, but not for universal, plug-and-play support across external controllers. PC Gamer reported on May 5, 2026, that developer 22cans had added full Steam Input support and trackpad support. The reviewer’s Deck controls worked, though the game was described as mouse-reliant and the reviewer preferred using the trackpads. PC Gamer’s report

That report does not identify or test specific third-party gamepad models. So if you are asking whether an Xbox controller works, the careful answer is that Steam Input may let you configure controller-style controls, but model-specific compatibility is not established. Expect to rely on mouse-like input or adjust a Steam Input layout rather than assume every control works natively.

Steam currently labels the game’s Steam Deck compatibility Unsupported. That badge is distinct from whether the game can launch or whether an individual player can play it: PC Gamer reported that 22cans described the game as playable on Deck, while acknowledging it did not meet Valve’s performance thresholds for an official compatibility badge. Steam’s listing identifies the game as Early Access, so compatibility may change as it is updated. Steam store listing

Valve’s compatibility process assesses more than launchability. Its criteria include whether Deck controls can reach all content, whether the default configuration is usable, whether input prompts match the controls, and whether performance meets the applicable standard. Valve describes the Playable category as games that function but may require manual adjustments. Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility criteria
What Deck performance has been reported?
PC Gamer’s reviewer said that shortly after launch, at the lowest settings, performance hovered around 30 fps and sometimes fell into the mid-20s or high teens. That is one reviewer’s launch-period observation, not a current measurement or a result guaranteed on every Deck. 22cans also said performance optimization remained an ongoing focus in the report.
