What Kineon MOVE+ is
Kineon markets MOVE+ as an LED and laser device for joint pain. The company describes it as combining 660 nm red-light LEDs with 808 nm near-infrared lasers. Those are manufacturer-stated specifications and intended uses, not independent proof of benefit. Kineon MOVE+ product page

The distinction matters: evidence about PBM as a treatment class, or about a different device and treatment protocol, cannot show that MOVE+ itself relieves pain. The reviewed evidence did not establish a product-specific clinical benefit for MOVE+.

What clinical research says about PBM for knee osteoarthritis
A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis examined 10 placebo-controlled studies involving 542 people with knee osteoarthritis. For pain at rest, six studies contributed to a pooled estimate of -0.7 (95% CI -1.1 to -0.2). The authors described the effect as moderate, but rated the certainty of evidence as very low. Three studies found no significant effect on the Timed “Up & Go” Test, a measure of functional mobility. Oliveira et al., Physical Therapy, 2024

Results varied across studies, which used different treatment parameters. The review found unclear-to-high risk of bias, and reported that improvements were not always clinically relevant or significantly better than placebo. So the pooled pain estimate is not a reliable promise of meaningful relief for an individual.
How to interpret the review’s conclusion
The authors said the evidence did not justify recommending PBM as an isolated treatment, though it may complement other widely recommended therapies. In practical terms, PBM is at most a possible add-on to discuss with a clinician—not a replacement for established osteoarthritis care. The results concern PBM generally and knee osteoarthritis; they do not prove that MOVE+ works, or that it helps other kinds of joint pain.

What the FDA information does—and does not—establish
The FDA’s January 2023 document on PBM devices is draft guidance for certain premarket submissions. The agency labels it non-binding and “Not for implementation.” It describes recommendations for testing, clinical studies, and labeling; it does not show that MOVE+ is FDA-cleared or FDA-approved. Kineon’s use of the phrase “FDA registered” should not be read as a claim of clearance.
Safety considerations
FDA consumer information on photobiomodulation warns that light-based procedures can injure the eyes and describes circumstances in which PBM may not be recommended. Its examples include photosensitivity disorders, pregnancy or planning pregnancy, active implants such as pacemakers, cancer at the treatment site, photosensitizing medication, and an active infection, wound, or lesion in the treatment area. That information discusses body-contouring procedures, not MOVE+ specifically, so it is general safety context rather than device-specific instructions. Follow the product instructions and ask a qualified clinician about your personal risks.

How to decide whether to try MOVE+
- Set expectations: A possible benefit from PBM for knee osteoarthritis is not evidence that this particular device will help your joint pain.
- Keep proven care central: Do not use a consumer light device instead of recommended osteoarthritis treatment. Ask your clinician whether an adjunctive therapy makes sense for your diagnosis and care plan.
- Check suitability first: Review the device instructions and discuss relevant health conditions, medication, implants, pregnancy, or skin problems at the treatment site with a clinician.
- Judge benefit by function and symptoms: If you try it with clinical guidance, track pain and day-to-day function against your baseline. Stop and seek advice if use causes a concerning reaction or your symptoms worsen.
