Kaspersky’s current US consumer Windows antivirus requirements list Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 as compatible, provided the PC meets the stated requirements. That is separate from Microsoft support: Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 are both out of support, and Kaspersky compatibility does not restore Windows security updates.
What Kaspersky’s Windows 8 requirements say
Kaspersky’s current US consumer Windows antivirus requirements list Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, including Pro and Enterprise editions and Windows 8.1 Update. The page gives these minimums:

- Processor: x86 processor at 1 GHz or higher.
- Memory: 1 GB RAM for 32-bit Windows or 2 GB for 64-bit Windows.
- Storage: 1,500 MB of free disk space.
Kaspersky also says internet access is required for activation, updates, and some features, and that a My Kaspersky account is required for the plan. It cautions that some features may not work on 64-bit operating systems. These are the requirements listed for the consumer Windows product on Kaspersky’s US system requirements page; they do not establish compatibility for every Kaspersky business product, older edition, or feature.
Why the exact Kaspersky version matters
Compatibility depends on the product and version, not just the Windows name. Kaspersky’s version 21.5 requirements also list Windows 8 and 8.1, but its stated browser-extension ranges are dated: Edge 77–96, Firefox 52–95, Firefox ESR 52/60/68/78/91, and Chrome 48–96. Kaspersky notes that newer browser versions may work if they support the relevant technology; that is not confirmation of current compatibility with today’s browsers. Microsoft no longer supports Windows 8 or 8.1
Microsoft’s operating-system lifecycle is separate from Kaspersky’s product requirements. Microsoft lists Windows 8 support as ending on January 12, 2016, and Windows 8.1 support as ending on January 10, 2023. Its unsupported-Windows guidance says these devices still function, but no longer receive Microsoft technical support, software updates, or security updates and fixes. Microsoft warns that without ongoing updates, a PC is more vulnerable to viruses and malware.
Microsoft also said Windows 8.1 would not receive an Extended Security Updates program after support ended; it would no longer get security or non-security updates, bug fixes, technical support, or online technical content updates. See its Windows 8.1 end-of-support announcement.

What Kaspersky compatibility does—and does not—mean
A listing of Windows 8 compatibility means the specified Kaspersky consumer product may install and run when the system meets its requirements. It does not patch Windows itself, restart Microsoft’s update service, or make an unsupported Windows installation equivalent to a supported one. Antivirus is not a substitute for operating-system security updates.

No general guarantee follows that every feature will work on every Windows 8 setup. In particular, Kaspersky flags possible feature limitations on 64-bit systems, and browser-extension compatibility depends on the product version and browser. The published requirements do not establish that all current configurations or features work on every Windows 8 PC.

What to do if your PC still runs Windows 8
- Identify your setup: Check whether you have Windows 8 or 8.1, whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit, and the exact Kaspersky product and version.
- Compare it with Kaspersky’s requirements: Confirm the processor, memory, storage, account, and internet requirements on the page for that exact product. Do not assume an older Kaspersky version’s browser-extension support applies to a current browser.
- Prioritize moving to a supported operating system: Microsoft recommends upgrading to a supported Windows release. If the computer cannot meet the requirements for a current supported version, Microsoft advises considering a Windows 11-capable replacement.
Whether an upgrade is possible depends on the PC’s hardware and the supported Windows version’s requirements. Kaspersky’s compatibility listing alone cannot answer that question.
