No. Halide does not work on every iPhone. Apple’s U.S. App Store listing currently requires iOS 18.0 or later. A phone that cannot run iOS 18 does not meet the listed requirement, and the official sources reviewed do not provide a complete model-by-model compatibility list. Even on a compatible phone, some Halide features depend on the device’s hardware, iOS version, or capture mode.
What iOS does Halide require?
As checked on October 4, 2026, Apple’s U.S. App Store listing for Halide says it requires iOS 18.0 or later on iPhone. Check your installed iOS version under Settings > General > About. To see whether an update is available, open Settings > General > Software Update.
The listing states an iOS requirement, not a list of supported iPhone models. If your phone is below iOS 18, check Software Update to see whether it can install a newer version. If it cannot, it does not meet the current listed requirement. For an older phone whose update eligibility is uncertain, consult the current App Store listing on that device rather than relying on an inferred model cutoff.
Does Halide have the same features on every compatible iPhone?
No. Meeting the app’s software requirement does not guarantee access to every camera feature. Some functions need specific camera hardware or iOS support; others are limitations of a particular Halide capture mode.

What Process Zero changes—and what it does not
Process Zero is an optional capture approach, not the definition of whether Halide is compatible with a phone. Lux describes it as a minimal, film-like process that uses a single shot rather than the multi-exposure computational processing used by the standard iPhone camera pipeline. That can produce a different look, but it comes with mode-specific trade-offs: the manual excludes Night and Portrait modes and 24- and 48-megapixel captures, along with the listed virtual 2× restriction on certain models.
In its August 2024 launch article, Lux described Process Zero as a single 12-megapixel shot. That figure describes the mode as presented at launch; it is not a resolution ceiling for every Halide format. If you want the iPhone’s computational assistance in challenging light or need Night or Portrait capture, use a standard Halide capture mode instead of Process Zero.

Why older compatibility claims may be out of date
When Lux introduced Process Zero on August 14, 2024, co-founder Ben Sandofsky wrote that it was available on every iPhone that ran Halide and iOS 17. That was a statement about availability at launch. Apple’s current U.S. App Store listing now says iOS 18.0 or later, so the older iOS 17 wording should not be treated as today’s installation requirement.
How to decide whether your iPhone will work
- Check your iOS version at Settings > General > About.
- If it is below iOS 18, go to Settings > General > Software Update and check whether your iPhone can update.
- Confirm the current requirement in Halide’s U.S. App Store listing. The official sources cited here do not establish a complete current model-by-model support matrix.
- If you already meet the OS requirement, check Lux’s documentation for the particular feature you want. Hardware-dependent controls and capture-mode limits can still apply.
Which Halide features are documented?
Lux’s Halide Mark III overview describes photographic Looks, a lens picker and crop views, framing guides, RAW capture options, and Photo Lab. That overview does not provide a full model-by-model table for every camera control, so its feature descriptions should not be read as confirmation that each function is available on every iPhone that meets the OS requirement.
