No. Fitbit Air’s supported setup requires signing in to the Google Health app with a Google Account. Google’s setup guide also says Air syncs its health and fitness data to that app, so you can’t complete the documented setup and app-sync experience without an account.
What you need to set up Fitbit Air
Google’s Fitbit setup requirements say new users need a Google Account. The Fitbit Air setup guide instructs you to charge the tracker, download Google Health, sign in, and then connect Air. Google says the tracker automatically syncs health and fitness data with the app.

Air has no screen, so the phone app is where Google says you review your metrics. The official instructions do not document an account-free setup or sync option. They also do not establish whether Air records or retains any data locally while it is disconnected; that is different from saying the tracker is proven unable to record anything without an account.
What you can and cannot do without an account
- Supported setup and app sync: You need to sign in with a Google Account to follow Google’s setup flow and sync Air with Google Health.
- Local tracking while disconnected: Google’s setup material does not specify what data, if any, the tracker stores locally without the app or an account.
- Checking metrics: Google directs users to the app to view Air’s metrics; the tracker itself has no screen.
Set up Air with a Google Account
- Check that your phone or tablet meets Google’s stated minimum: iOS 16.4 or higher, or Android 11 or higher. Google notes that some older phone models may still have compatibility issues even when they meet the operating-system minimum, so check the current device requirements before buying or setting up.
- Charge Fitbit Air and install the Google Health app.
- Open Google Health, choose “Sign in with Google,” then select an existing Google Account or create one and follow the setup prompts.
- Connect Fitbit Air in the app. Google’s general device setup instructions say setup may ask for height, weight, and sex for calculations such as stride length, estimated distance, basal metabolic rate, and calorie burn.
If you already have a Fitbit account
Google says access to Fitbit with a Fitbit account ended on May 19, 2026. Existing users need to move their account to a Google Account to continue using the service. Google’s account-migration instructions say migration cannot be undone after completion and that users retain the historical data they choose to move.

Google’s data options guidance said data deletion processing for accounts not migrated would begin July 15, 2026. That date has passed. The page does not establish what options remain for any particular inactive account, so consult current Google support for account-specific guidance rather than assuming an old export or recovery option is still available.

No. The account is required for supported setup, but it does not mean every feature is available to every user. Google describes Air as tracking activity, sleep, and health metrics, including steps, distance, cardio load, calories burned, and sleep stages. Google says some advanced features, including irregular rhythm notifications and SpO2 estimation, are unavailable in certain regions, while advanced wellness insights through the personal health coach require Google Health Premium. These are Google’s feature descriptions, not independent performance findings.
