Deleting a video does not remove a Community Guidelines strike, and YouTube says you may lose the ability to appeal that strike after deleting the video. If the strike is tied to an active or archived live stream, it may also disable live-stream access. Check the exact notice in YouTube Studio and use its appeal or correction route; deletion is not a reliable way to restore streaming.
Why deleting the video usually does not restore live streaming
A live-stream restriction is tied to the channel’s account or policy status, not simply to whether the video remains available. YouTube says a strike on an active or archived live stream may disable live-stream access. Deleting the affected video does not erase a Community Guidelines strike; YouTube says the strike remains and the creator cannot appeal that strike afterward. First identify what YouTube actually issued
Not every video removal is a Community Guidelines strike. The notice may describe a warning, a strike, a copyright removal request, a Content ID issue, or another policy action. Each has a different remedy, so do not infer the cause from the fact that a video disappeared. Open YouTube Studio and read the notice and account status. YouTube’s removal guidance explains that videos can be removed for different reasons: Troubleshoot video removals.

- Copyright issue: check the copyright notice and any live-stream-specific message. A Content ID claim is not automatically the same as a copyright strike or a Community Guidelines strike.
- Other restriction: follow the action and explanation shown in Studio. Public help pages cannot determine the status or cause for an individual channel.
How to check the notice and appeal if it is a Community Guidelines strike
- Open YouTube Studio. Go to the channel’s dashboard and locate the Channel violations card or the relevant policy notification.
- Read the notice before deleting anything. Confirm whether YouTube calls it a warning, strike, or content removal, and note the affected video and stated policy.
- If you believe the decision is mistaken, use the appeal control in the notice. YouTube states that warnings and strikes can be appealed within six months; a content removal can be appealed for up to one year. The applicable deadline depends on the action issued. See YouTube’s appeal instructions.
- Wait for the account status to update. Use the notice and Studio status to confirm whether the restriction has ended or been changed; do not assume that removing the video itself restores access.
If you already deleted the video, the strike may still remain and the appeal option for that strike may no longer be available. Check Studio for the current status and any remaining action. If the notice is unclear, contact YouTube through its creator help route and provide the exact notice rather than attempting to bypass the restriction.

How long can a restriction last?
The duration depends on the action and the notice on your channel; the periods below are specific YouTube Help rules, not a universal prediction of when every creator regains live access. YouTube’s cited Help pages do not display publication years, so verify the current notice and policy page for your account.
| Situation described by YouTube | Stated period | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| First Community Guidelines strike | One week | YouTube says specified posting restrictions apply for one week after a first strike. See Community Guidelines strike basics. |
| Second strike within the same 90-day period | Two weeks | YouTube describes a two-week freeze after a second strike within that period. The 90 days is part of the cited strike rule, not a general appeal deadline. See Community Guidelines strike basics. |
| Strike in the live-stream scenario described by YouTube | 14 days | YouTube’s live-stream help describes a 14-day live-stream restriction in that scenario. It does not establish a single duration for every type of live restriction. See Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming. |
Use the active channel notice as the authority for your case. Do not combine the one-week, two-week, and 14-day periods into one assumed countdown: they refer to different policy contexts.

If the restriction involves copyright or a live-stream match
Check Studio for copyright strikes and the specific issue YouTube lists. YouTube says live-stream access may be restored after the listed issues are fixed. If you have permission to use third-party content and a Content ID match triggered the problem, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Follow the steps in YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams; deleting the video alone is not stated as a way to clear the underlying issue.
Do not try to stream around an active restriction
Using another channel to get around an active live-stream restriction is circumvention under YouTube’s guidance and can lead to account termination. Resolve the listed issue or appeal through the affected channel instead. See Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.
