What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Yes—but the result depends on how an alarm, event, or task is scheduled. A schedule tied to local clock time may encounter a skipped hour in spring or a repeated hour in fall. A schedule tied to a fixed instant behaves differently, and apps do not all handle these cases the same way.
Why the clock change can affect a schedule
Daylight saving time changes the offset between local time and UTC. When clocks move forward, some local times do not occur; when clocks move back, some occur twice. Software must interpret a scheduled time using a time zone and a rule for those edge cases—or use a fixed instant instead.

- Local wall-clock schedule: aims for a stated local time, such as 7:00 a.m., as the time-zone offset changes.
- Fixed instant: identifies one exact point in time, commonly represented in UTC. Its local display can change when the time zone or offset changes.
For recurring schedules, the key questions are which time zone governs the schedule and what the software does when the specified local time is missing or repeated.

Google Calendar
Google says events are converted to UTC when created and displayed in local time. That does not mean every event simply shifts by an hour at each clock change. The event’s time-zone information and the applicable time-zone rules determine how its instant and local display relate. Google also warns that changes to a region’s time-zone rules can cause some past or future events to display incorrectly. If the Calendar time zone changes after a task is created, Google says tasks adapt to the new time zone. Google Calendar Help: Use Google Calendar in different time zones.

Apple Calendar on iPhone
Apple Calendar normally displays events according to the current location, but an event can be assigned a different time zone. The iPhone’s Time Zone Override is a display setting: it changes the time zone shown in Calendar. That displayed hour should not be confused with the event’s assigned time zone. Apple’s iPhone Calendar guide explains these options.
What happens to phone alarms?
Do not assume every phone alarm follows the same DST rule. Apple’s consumer guide explains how to set repeating Clock alarms, but does not specify what happens to every alarm scheduled in a skipped or repeated hour. Android’s help page explains automatic date, time, and time-zone settings; it is not a guarantee of how every alarm app handles DST. See Apple’s Clock guide and Android Help on date and time settings.

- PLUG IN ALARM CLOCK WITH BATTERY MEMORY: This plug in alarm clock powered by USB only — all functions, including the display, require a wired power connection. You can also insert three AAA batteries (not included) as a battery backup to save all your time & alarm settings and ensure alarms still ring when power fails, but they CANNOT light up the screen or power the clock for regular daily use.
- BEDROOM CLOCK WITH DIMABLE LED DISPLAY: The compact digital clock (6.2" x 3" x 2.8") has a 48mm blue bold font for easy time viewing from a distance. You can easily toggle between 5 brightness levels, from very bright to completely dim. It also offers 12 or 24-hour time formats to meet different time reading habits.
- DUAL ALARM CLOCK WITH SNOOZE FUNCTION: Our bedside alarm clock supports setting two separate wake up times, convenient for family members with different schedules. There is an easily accessible snooze button on the top, enabling you to easily activate an additional 9 minutes of snooze even in a half-awake state.
- LOUD ALARM CLOCK WITH 4 VOLUME LEVELS: Our loud alarm clock offers four levels of volume. With one click you can switch to the volume that suits you best, effectively waking you up and starting your day with a fresh start!
- EASY-TO-USE ALARM CLOCK FOR GIFT GIVING: With clearly labeled buttons for easy operation, this table clock pleases as both functional bedside timekeeper and a considerate present. Ideal for personal use or as a considerate gift for children, seniors, teenagers, or loved ones.
For developers using Apple’s AlarmKit, the distinction is more explicit: relative schedules are based on the device’s current time zone, while fixed schedules are absolute and do not change when the device time zone changes, as described in Apple’s AlarmKit scheduling documentation and WWDC25 session. This API behavior should not be treated as a promise about every third-party or built-in consumer alarm.

What happens to scheduled computer tasks?
Spring forward: a missing hour
Microsoft documents a specific rule for Windows Task Scheduler weekly triggers: if a task is set between 2:00 a.m. and 2:59:59.999 a.m. on a day when that local hour does not exist, it runs at the earliest possible time that day. In Microsoft’s Pacific-time example, a weekly 2:30 a.m. task on March 13, 2022 runs at 3:00 a.m.; on other Sundays it runs at 2:30 a.m. This is documented behavior for that trigger, not a rule for all schedulers. Fall back: a repeated hour
A recurring local time during the repeated hour can correspond to two different instants. Apple Foundation’s recurrence-rule example shows that a recurring 1:00 a.m. event on November 3, 2024 can resolve to 1:00 a.m. PDT (08:00 UTC) with the .first repeated-time policy, or 1:00 a.m. PST (09:00 UTC) with .last. The example illustrates why scheduling software needs a policy; it does not establish the behavior of every operating system or scheduler. Apple Foundation repeated-time policy documentation.

How to check a schedule that looks shifted
- Check the device clock settings. Confirm automatic date and time and automatic time zone are enabled if that is what you intend. Android documents these controls and notes that location may be used to determine the device’s time zone: Android Help.
- Inspect the schedule’s assigned time zone. For a calendar event, distinguish its event time zone from the time zone used to display it. On iPhone, check whether Time Zone Override is enabled.
- Identify the schedule model. Consult the specific app or scheduler documentation to determine whether it follows local wall-clock time, a named zone, or a fixed instant.
- Check the transition-day case. If the scheduled time falls in the spring gap or fall repeated hour, look for the product’s documented rule. For an important alarm or task, verify its next transition-day occurrence rather than assuming how it will run.
