No. Buying the standalone Squadron 42 pledge does not include access to Star Citizen. To play Star Citizen, your RSI account needs a Star Citizen Game Package. If you want both, check that the package or order explicitly includes both entitlements before paying.
What does a Squadron 42 pledge include?
The standalone Squadron 42 pledge is for the single-player campaign; it is not a Star Citizen Game Package. RSI’s Get Started checklist, updated April 16, 2026, says the Squadron 42 standalone pledge is the exception to packages that include Star Citizen. RSI’s Pledges FAQ describes Game Packages as including a digital download of Star Citizen, a ship, and other items listed with the offer.

Package contents can vary, so do not assume that a ship, campaign, or other extra is included unless the current product description says so.

- Before buying: Read the exact RSI store listing and look for Star Citizen or a Star Citizen Game Package in the included items. If you also want the campaign, confirm that Squadron 42 is listed too.
- After buying: Sign in to your RSI account, open My Hangar, and use the Game Packages filter to check your entitlements, as RSI directs in its checklist.
- If you already own a starter package: Check the order and current account contents before purchasing anything else. The included items, rather than the product name alone, determine which access you have.
RSI says it may offer a discounted Squadron 42 add-on during checkout for qualifying packages. The offer is order-specific, must be selected before completing checkout, and cannot be applied retroactively through that checkout offer. See the Orders FAQ for the conditions.

Can you play Squadron 42 now?
No download is currently available. RSI’s download FAQ, updated February 4, 2026, says Squadron 42 is in development and is not available for download. It says access will follow completion of development, testing, and release, but gives no release date.
Star Citizen is separate: RSI says an account with a Game Package is required to access its live environment. A Squadron 42 pledge by itself does not provide that access.

Why older purchase guides may say you get both
RSI split the packages for new purchases after February 14, 2016, so buyers could choose the single-player campaign or persistent-universe access separately and add the other. In its February 9, 2016 announcement, RSI said existing backers’ packages were unaffected and that Squadron 42 packages sold before the split included persistent-universe access. That is a historical exception, not a rule for current offers.

Check the pledge terms before you buy
RSI’s Terms of Service, accessed October 11, 2026, characterize contributions as development pledges. The selected pledge determines whether it provides Star Citizen alpha access, certain in-game items, Squadron 42, or some combination. The terms describe a 30-day withdrawal period for qualifying pledge items after access is received, subject to conditions and exceptions. Review the terms attached to your own transaction rather than treating that period as a universal refund guarantee.
