Brick works with Android phones running Android 12.0 or later, provided the phone has NFC and NFC is turned on. Brick does not publish a complete list of compatible phone models, so its named Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones are NFC-location examples—not a full compatibility or certification list.
What an Android phone needs to use Brick
- Android 12.0 or later. Brick’s FAQ lists this as the minimum Android version.
- NFC hardware, with NFC enabled. Brick uses a physical NFC device to activate or deactivate a selected blocking mode. Check your phone’s settings to confirm NFC is available and switched on before setup. Brick’s terms say compatibility is not guaranteed for every device.
- The Brick app and setup permissions. Install the app from Google Play. During Android setup, Brick’s Android setup guide instructs users to grant Accessibility, alarms and reminders, and notification access permissions. Brick’s terms also describe account creation.
- The physical Brick device. The app works with Brick’s NFC device; the phone scans the device to apply the selected blocking mode. See the Brick product page for the device description.
Brick says Android can block apps except Phone and Launcher. Its FAQ also says users can create up to ten custom modes. App behavior may vary with software updates.

Which Android phones does Brick support?
Brick’s published compatibility guidance is based on Android version and NFC, not a model-by-model whitelist. Its terms state that it does not guarantee compatibility with every device. As a result, a phone meeting the stated Android and NFC requirements is a potential match, but Brick’s public information does not confirm every model or variant individually.
Brick’s “Brick won’t scan” troubleshooting guide names these phones as examples when showing where to find the NFC antenna:

For those examples, Brick says the NFC reader is usually near the top-center of the back, around or below the camera area. These references help with scanning; they should not be read as an exhaustive list or a guarantee for every regional or hardware variant.
Set up Brick on an Android phone
- Install the Brick app from Google Play and create an account as prompted.
- Turn on NFC in your phone’s settings.
- Follow the app’s setup prompts and grant Accessibility, alarms and reminders, and notification access permissions.
- Open the app and wait until it shows “Ready to Scan.”
- Choose a blocking mode and scan the physical Brick device to activate it.

- Open the Brick app before trying to Brick or Unbrick, and make sure it displays “Ready to Scan.”
- Confirm NFC is enabled in the phone’s settings.
- Update the Brick app through the app store, then restart the phone.
- Check your phone’s settings or manufacturer guidance to locate its NFC antenna; move that area over the Brick while scanning.
- If scanning still fails, remove a thick phone case, hover the phone over the Brick rather than tapping it directly, try the Brick’s thin side, or remove the Brick from a fridge.
These are Brick’s vendor troubleshooting suggestions, not a claim that every Android phone scans in the same way. If your phone meets the published requirements but still will not scan, Brick’s public materials do not establish model-specific compatibility; contact Brick support with your phone model and Android version.
