Yes. Family Sharing lets a family group share eligible Apple TV subscriptions and eligible purchases, while each person uses their own Apple Account. Set up the family group on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac—not on Apple TV 4K. Afterward, members can use the shared access on supported Apple devices, including Apple TV 4K.
What Family Sharing covers on Apple TV
“Apple TV” can mean Apple’s subscription service and app, while Apple TV 4K is the streaming device. Family Sharing can cover eligible Apple subscriptions and eligible purchases, but those are separate sharing categories with different controls.

- Apple TV subscription: Eligible Apple subscriptions are generally shared automatically with the family group. This does not include third-party-branded subscriptions or movies and shows rented or purchased in the Apple TV app.
- Purchases: Movies, shows, apps, and other eligible purchases may be shared through the separate Purchase Sharing setting. Some content, in-app purchases, and subscriptions are not shareable.

On iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Family or Family Sharing.
- Choose the option to set up Family Sharing, then follow the onscreen prompts.
- Invite family members and have them accept the invitation using their Apple Accounts.
On Mac
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings.
- Select Family.
- Follow the setup prompts to create the group and invite members.
Apple’s guide, Use Family Sharing on Apple TV 4K, confirms that setup is done on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad. Apple TV 4K supports using shared access, but it cannot initiate or configure the family group.
Check subscription and purchase sharing
For the Apple TV subscription
Once the family group is active, eligible Apple subscriptions are generally shared automatically. If someone cannot access the subscription, check the organizer’s subscription and family-access controls, including Share with Family or Manage Family Access where available. Confirm that the plan qualifies: individual or student plans may require an upgrade, and a subscription billed by another provider may not be eligible.

For a movie, show, or app purchase
Purchase Sharing is optional and separate from subscription sharing. Check that it is enabled and that the item qualifies. When Purchase Sharing is on, the organizer is generally responsible for family purchases under Apple’s payment rules, although another member’s own payment method may be charged in some cases.

After the family group is set up, use the family member’s Apple Account on Apple TV 4K to access that person’s content and viewing privileges. If shared purchases do not appear, check the Store account under Settings > Users & Accounts. The Apple TV 4K is a way to watch shared content, not a requirement for creating the family group.

Fix missing shared content
- Confirm the invitation was accepted. The person must be in the family group before family sharing applies.
- Check the account used for purchases. Make sure Media & Purchases uses the Apple Account associated with the family setup. An account mismatch can prevent shared items from appearing.
- Identify what is missing. A subscription, an eligible purchase, a rental, and a third-party channel do not follow the same sharing rules. Rentals, third-party subscriptions, hidden purchases, and some in-app purchases or subscriptions may not be available to other members.
- Check the relevant sharing control. For an Apple subscription, verify family access and plan eligibility. For a purchase, verify Purchase Sharing and item eligibility.
- Check the Apple TV account. On Apple TV 4K, verify the Store sign-in under Settings > Users & Accounts. If needed, sign out of and back into Media & Purchases.
