No. Apple TV does not run Apple Intelligence, and you do not need an Apple Intelligence subscription to use Apple TV. The confusion is that Apple TV 4K can act as a Home hub for specific Apple Intelligence features in the Home app. Those features have separate iPhone and iCloud+ requirements.
What Apple TV 4K does—and does not do
Apple does not list Apple TV as a device that runs Apple Intelligence. Instead, Apple TV 4K is one of the compatible Home hubs for certain Home app features, including descriptions of Home camera video and natural-language search of recordings. The AI features are configured through the Home app; the Apple TV 4K provides the hub role.
That distinction matters: ordinary Apple TV viewing and use do not require an iPhone, an iCloud+ plan, or an Apple Intelligence subscription. The additional requirements below apply to the specified Home camera features, not Apple TV generally.
Requirements for Apple Intelligence Home camera features
Apple’s current iPhone support guide specifies these requirements for Home camera video descriptions and recording search:
#1 Best Overall
- 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
- A supported iPhone belonging to the home’s owner. Apple identifies iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 or later models as eligible, running iOS 27 or later, subject to language and region availability.
- Apple Intelligence enabled in the Home app. The home owner must have Apple Intelligence enabled on the eligible iPhone and in Home.
- A 2 TB iCloud+ plan. Apple specifies this plan for the described Home camera capabilities. This is an iCloud+ requirement, not an Apple Intelligence subscription.
- A compatible Home hub running the latest system software. Apple names Apple TV 4K, HomePod (2nd generation), and HomePod mini.
These requirements are specific to the Home camera functionality Apple documents; they should not be treated as general system requirements for Apple TV.
Which Home hub should you use?
Apple lists three compatible options. Choose based on what you already own and whether you also want Apple TV streaming hardware; Apple’s documentation does not say one hub is best for every household.

| Home hub | Apple lists it for the Home features? | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV 4K | Yes | Can serve as the hub and provides Apple TV streaming hardware. |
| HomePod (2nd generation) | Yes | A listed hub alternative if you do not need Apple TV streaming hardware. |
| HomePod mini | Yes | A listed hub alternative if you already have one or prefer a HomePod. |
Whichever option you use, Apple requires the latest operating-system software for the hub. Check Apple’s current requirements for your device and region before buying or setting up hardware.
Is there an Apple Intelligence subscription?
Apple’s stated 2 TB requirement is for iCloud+, not a general Apple Intelligence subscription. Apple separately notes that some server-based Apple Intelligence features may have usage limits and mentions possible paid expanded access, but that does not establish an Apple Intelligence subscription requirement for Apple TV. The relevant plan requirement here is the one Apple gives for Home camera descriptions and search.
