For Amazon.com in the US, Amazon says it does not price match. Its official Exchange an Item page does describe a narrower case: if you exchange an eligible item for a lower-priced replacement, Amazon says it will refund the difference. That is not a general promise to adjust the price after an ordinary purchase.
Does Amazon refund the difference if the price drops after you buy?
Amazon’s US help page does not state a general post-purchase price-adjustment guarantee. If the price falls after you place an order, the page does not promise that Amazon will refund the difference simply because the same item is now cheaper.

Amazon’s terms for Dash orders provide limited timing context: the amount charged is based on the product price when the order is placed, less applicable discounts, plus applicable taxes and shipping-related charges. Those terms apply to Dash and should not be treated as the complete terms for every Amazon order. Amazon Dash Terms of Use

When does Amazon refund a lower price?
The difference refund applies to an exchange for a lower-priced replacement, not to an ordinary purchase whose price later falls. Amazon says exchanges are limited to eligible orders paid for with a credit or debit card; items purchased with a promotion do not qualify for an exchange. Check the order’s available options, since eligibility can vary.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
- Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
How to check your exchange or return options
- Open Your Orders on Amazon.com.
- Find the item and select Return or replace items.
- Select a reason and follow the on-screen instructions to see whether an exchange is available and what options apply.
If there is no exchange option, Amazon directs customers to return the original item and place a new order. The return-by date and options shown for the specific order determine whether that route is available. For a gift, Amazon likewise says to return the original and place a new order.
What to do if an Amazon item goes on sale after you buy it
- Check for an eligible exchange: If the order offers an exchange for a lower-priced replacement, follow the order flow; Amazon says it refunds the difference in that specific case.
- Check the return option: If the item is returnable and still within the displayed return-by date, you can consider returning it and ordering again at the currently available price. Compare the new total and confirm the replacement order before returning the original.
- If neither option appears: The order’s displayed eligibility controls; the cited US help page does not promise a separate price adjustment.
What Amazon’s other pricing policies do—and do not—mean
Amazon’s US Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy is for sellers, not a customer price-match program. It says sellers set their prices and Amazon monitors offers; enforcement can include removing an offer or Featured Offer, suspending shipping, or suspending or terminating selling privileges in serious or repeated cases. It does not give buyers a right to receive a refund when a price changes.

Amazon Business Subscribe & Save is also a distinct case: its terms say a delivery’s price can fluctuate and that Amazon notifies the customer of the next delivery price before filling it, allowing changes or cancellation. These terms, last updated November 29, 2022, concern that business subscription rather than ordinary consumer purchases. Subscribe & Save (for Amazon Business) Terms & Conditions
