No official source identified here confirms that a new Solo Leveling release permanently removes Sung Jinwoo’s “strongest” status. The headline also does not specify which release it means. Netmarble’s game descriptions, a Kakao Entertainment announcement about webtoon side stories, and a game update’s “Successor” label refer to different contexts; none establishes a lasting change in the main story.
What the claim is missing
“New release” could mean a webtoon episode, a novel or comic volume, sequel material, or a game update. Those are not interchangeable: an event or label in one format does not by itself establish a permanent change in another continuity. The claim also leaves “strongest” undefined. It might mean an explicit title, a character’s place in a particular story, or comparative combat power.

To verify a permanent change, readers need the exact work and release, then the scene or official description that makes the change. The sources available here do not identify that release or provide such evidence, so the headline’s central assertion remains unconfirmed.

What official sources actually say
Netmarble’s game framing
In its November 25, 2025 announcement for Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE, Netmarble describes Jinwoo as rising “to become the world’s strongest hunter – the Ultimate Shadow Monarch.” That is the game publisher’s promotional framing of the game’s story, not proof that every adaptation or later continuity uses the same status. Read Netmarble’s announcement.
#1 Best Overall
Netmarble’s Solo Leveling: ARISE profile presents Jinwoo as a hunter who can level up after the Double Dungeon incident and gain the power to turn the dead into Shadow Soldiers. It describes his progression in the game context; it does not report that he loses a strongest-status designation. See the official Jinwoo profile.
The “Successor” update label
A July 30, 2026 ARISE update announcement introduces “the Monarch of Shadows’ Successor” and says Jinwoo takes on the form of the Monarch of Shadows. “Successor” is the update’s character framing. The announcement does not say the main-series story permanently transfers or removes Jinwoo’s strongest status. A game update description is not, on its own, evidence of a canonical story change in the webtoon or novels. Read the update announcement.
Webtoon side stories and epilogue
Kakao Entertainment announced in January 2023 that new webtoon special episodes covered side stories and an epilogue published after the original web novel concluded. Its announcement gives context for the additional webtoon material, but does not say Jinwoo permanently ceases to be the strongest. The publisher also reported 14.3 billion cumulative worldwide views at that time; that is a historical figure from the 2023 announcement, not a current count. Read Kakao Entertainment’s announcement.

- Identify the format and installment. Look for the title of the work, chapter or volume number, and release date. A game update, webtoon episode, and novel installment may tell different stories.
- Check the relevant official release. Find the episode or volume itself, or an announcement from its publisher. A headline or fan discussion without the underlying scene cannot establish what happened.
- Separate title from power. Check whether the text explicitly changes a title or designation, shows a temporary setback, or compares combat ability. Those are distinct claims.
- Look for evidence of permanence. A single scene, promotional label, or update description does not establish that a change lasts. The claim needs support from the relevant story and continuity.
Where to find the official story editions
Yen Press lists official Solo Leveling novel volumes and an omnibus, and its series catalog also notes comic editions. The catalog is useful for locating editions, but it does not identify a volume containing the alleged status change. Browse Yen Press’s novel series catalog.
