Does a Google Ads Call Extension Include the Advertiser’s Name?

Google Ads call assets provide a phone action, while business names and logos use separate business information assets that may not serve on every ad.

No—not automatically. Google’s current term is call asset: it adds a phone number or call action to an ad. A business name or logo is handled separately through business information assets, and Google does not guarantee those assets will appear. The spoken-name rule for calls from call ads is separate from what appears in the ad.

What a call asset shows

A call asset gives people a way to call your business or visit your website. On a device that can place calls, it may appear beneath a responsive search ad as a clickable call button; on desktop, Google may show a “Call us” button. The asset supplies the phone action, not the advertiser’s name. Google decides at auction time whether to show assets, so a call asset will not appear with every impression. See Google’s call asset guidance.

Call assets can be added at account, campaign, or ad-group level. When more than one level applies, the most specific level takes precedence.

How the business name can appear

Google handles business identity through business information assets, which can provide a business name and logo alongside Search ads. These are distinct from call assets: one supplies the call path, while the other supplies name and logo identity. Google’s business information guidance says eligibility includes search spend in the previous 28 days and completed advertiser verification.

The submitted business name generally must match the verified domain or legal business name. Google’s policy describes an applicable brand verification route for cases where the name does not match those details; consult the business information requirements for the current rules.

Approval and eligibility still do not ensure display. Google may decide not to serve a business information asset; in that case, the ad may show a placeholder globe and the display URL instead. To know what is serving for a particular advertiser, check the account and preview the ad—public guidance cannot establish what a specific account will show.

Call asset Adds a phone number or call action; users may call or visit the website. Can be set at account, campaign, or ad-group level; the most specific level takes precedence. Not shown on every impression. Google may show a call button on call-capable devices or a “Call us” button on desktop.
Business information asset Can show the business name and logo. The name advertisers must say on calls

There is also a policy requirement that concerns what a business says, not what Google displays. For calls from users who clicked a call ad, Google’s call ad requirements state: “When answering calls from users who’ve clicked on their call ad, advertisers must begin the call by stating their business name, as it appears in their call ads.” This is a spoken-call rule for call ads; it does not mean the name is automatically displayed beside a call asset.

Call-only ads are being phased out

Google’s transition guidance says options to create new call-only ads will be removed in February 2026, and existing call-only ads will stop receiving impressions in February 2027. These are month-level dates, not specified days. Google advises moving to responsive search ads with call assets. See how to transition from call ads to call assets.

Measuring calls

For call attribution, Google documents call details forwarding, which can provide information such as the campaign and ad group associated with a call. It requires account-level call reporting and a supported third-party call analytics and tracking company. See Google’s call details forwarding guidance for requirements and setup information.

Google also reports an average of 8% more conversions at a similar cost per conversion for advertisers showing a business logo and name with Search ads. The cited guidance does not state a publication year or study design, and this Google-reported average is not a prediction or guarantee for an individual account. The claim appears in Google’s guidance on using asset types.
