Why the coin alignment trick is a bad idea
A coin is not a safe spacer or alignment aid for wireless charging. Samsung’s U.S. charging guidance warns that metal or magnetic materials, including coins, placed between a Galaxy Watch and its charger may decrease charging efficiency and may damage the watch or charger. How to position a Galaxy Watch on its charger
Place the back of the watch in the middle of the compatible charging surface. Samsung Canada advises centering the watch on the charging pad, where the charger’s magnets can help position it; Samsung UK likewise recommends aligning the center of the watch’s back with the center of the charger.

The watch needs to rest flat enough to make proper contact. If a band prevents that, remove it while charging. Check for dirt, moisture, or other material on the watch back or charger and clean as appropriate before trying again.
Confirm charger compatibility before switching accessories
Galaxy Watch charging accessories are not universal across generations. Samsung’s U.S. support page distinguishes the flat charging dock used by the Galaxy Watch Active through Watch8 generations from the wireless charging dock used by the original Galaxy Watch, Gear S3, and Gear Sport. Samsung Canada’s charger guide, last updated August 26, 2026, also differentiates accessories by model and generation and applies to devices sold in Canada.

Use the accessory included with your watch or another Samsung accessory confirmed compatible with that specific model. Do not assume a generic Qi charging pad will work with every Galaxy Watch. Check current Samsung support for your region and exact watch model before buying or using an alternate charger.

What to check if charging still fails
- Reposition the watch. Center its back on the compatible charger and make sure it can sit flat.
- Remove anything interfering with contact. Take off a band if it keeps the watch from resting properly, and clear dirt, moisture, or other foreign material from the watch and charger.
- Check the power connection. Confirm the cable, adapter, and outlet are connected and working.
- Let hot equipment cool. Samsung says charging may slow or stop temporarily if the watch or charger becomes too hot.
- Assess the charger. If it does not work at all, check warranty or support options, or replace it with an accessory confirmed compatible with your model.
Can a Galaxy phone charge the watch instead?
Wireless power sharing from a compatible Galaxy phone is available for some older watch models, but it is not a universal fallback. Samsung’s U.S. guidance excludes the Watch7, Watch Ultra, and Watch8 series; Samsung Canada’s guide says the Watch9 and Watch Ultra2 do not support Wireless power sharing. Because support varies by model and region, verify your exact watch against current regional Samsung guidance before relying on this option.
