TCP port 2375 is conventionally associated with Docker Engine’s plaintext, non-TLS API, but seeing that port in a scan does not prove Docker is listening, that its API is unauthenticated, or that the service is reachable from the internet. Treat it as a lead: confirm the service, listening address, network path, daemon configuration, and Engine version before judging exposure.
What port 2375 can—and cannot—tell you
Docker documents TCP port 2375 as the customary port for daemon connections without TLS; 2376 is the customary port for TLS. These are conventions, not identity guarantees. A port number alone does not confirm which application responded or what security controls protect it. See Docker’s remote-access guidance and dockerd reference.

A scan finding is only one piece of evidence. To assess it, distinguish a detected port from a confirmed Docker API response, and then establish where the daemon is listening and whether your authorized vantage point can reach it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Port: Is TCP 2375 open, and does the response identify the Docker Engine API?
- Binding address: Is the listener limited to loopback, bound to a private interface, or listening on all interfaces?
- Reachability: Do routing and firewall rules allow access from the network you are assessing?
- Protection: Is remote access secured with TLS and client verification, or another documented access method?
- Configuration and version: What daemon settings and Docker Engine version apply to this host?
Why the listener address and network path matter
A Docker daemon bound to 127.0.0.1:2375 accepts connections on the local loopback interface; that finding does not mean remote machines can connect directly. Docker’s remote-access documentation shows this loopback configuration and separately discusses firewall changes for remote access. Conversely, the dockerd reference uses 0.0.0.0:2375 as an example of listening on all interfaces. The actual exposure depends on the binding, network controls, and path from the source of the scan—not on the port number alone.

Assess only systems you are authorized to examine. Check the effective daemon configuration and verify reachability from the relevant network locations; a result from one vantage point does not establish access from every network.
Why unsecured daemon access is high risk
Docker warns that remote access can expose a host to unauthorized control. Its security documentation explains that a user able to control the daemon can configure containers to access the host filesystem, potentially gaining root-level access on the host. Docker describes the risk directly: “Configuring Docker to accept connections from remote clients can leave you vulnerable to unauthorized access and other attacks.” The statement is from Docker Docs.

A robust, Cloud-based deployment and configuration tool comes standard with WatchGuard Firebox appliances. Local staff connects the device to power and the Internet, and the appliance connects to the Cloud for all its configuration settings.
- Firebox T45 models make network optimization easy. With integrated SD-WAN and optional 5G technology, you can ensure failover to the cellular network, minimize disruptive connectivity, and establish secure and reliable connections for small offices.
- Standard Support includes 24x7 access to technical support, with an unlimited number of incidents with a targeted response time of 24 hours for low priority, 8 hours for medium priority, 4 hours for high priority, and live calls for critical priority. Support is Web-Based and Phone-Based.
A firewall can reduce which network hosts can connect, but it is not a replacement for securing the daemon protocol. Docker notes that the API may remain reachable from containers even when a host firewall restricts access from other network hosts. Consider both external network exposure and access paths from containers, as described in Docker Engine security.
How Docker Engine version changes the assessment
Do not assume every installation handles unauthenticated TCP access the same way. Docker’s deprecated-features documentation records a version transition: beginning with Engine 27, explicitly disabling TLS while accepting remote TCP connections causes startup failure. Docker lists mandatory TLS verification for TCP addresses other than tcp://localhost as the target behavior for Engine 28. These documented changes do not establish the configuration or behavior of a specific host; check its installed version and effective settings.

How to secure remote Docker administration
If remote access is unnecessary
Prefer Docker’s default local Unix socket rather than exposing a remote TCP listener. Docker documents the socket-based access model in its Linux post-installation guidance. Ensure access to the socket itself is limited to trusted users because it grants powerful control over the daemon.
If remote access is required
Docker documents SSH forwarding and HTTPS/TLS with client-certificate verification as safer remote-access patterns. Follow the configuration guidance in Protect the Docker daemon socket. Treat SSH credentials and TLS client keys as sensitive: possession can grant substantial daemon control.
Use firewall rules to limit permitted network sources as an additional layer, not as the only protection. Confirm both the daemon’s authentication and encryption settings and the network paths that can reach it.

Quick Recap
A practical checklist for a 2375 finding
- Confirm what answered. Determine whether the endpoint returns a Docker Engine API response rather than inferring service identity from the port alone. Docker describes the API in its Engine API documentation.
- Identify the listener address. Review the daemon configuration and determine whether the listener uses loopback, a specific interface, or all interfaces.
- Test the relevant network scope. From authorized locations, establish whether routing and firewall rules permit a connection. Record which vantage point the result represents.
- Check protection and version. Verify the configured remote-access method, TLS/client verification settings, and installed Engine version; do not infer these from the port.
- Reduce unnecessary access. Remove remote TCP access if it is not needed. If it is needed, use Docker’s documented SSH or certificate-authenticated TLS approach and restrict network access as an additional control.
