Check the kit receipt and account equipment list before deciding what to do with it.
How to tell whether your gateway needs to be returned
Xfinity Prepaid’s Customer Agreement distinguishes equipment purchased by the customer from XFINITY Equipment provided or leased by Comcast. It says that, apart from inside wiring and equipment you purchased, XFINITY Equipment belongs to Comcast or other third parties. It also makes customers responsible for costs and charges if XFINITY Equipment is not returned undamaged.

That distinction matters, but the word “included” in a kit description does not by itself establish whether a particular gateway is owned by you or is returnable. Xfinity Prepaid describes the kit as including a refurbished WiFi modem, but says the specific account and kit terms determine the return route.
- Find the kit receipt and note whether the kit came from Xfinity or a participating retailer.
- Locate the gateway’s serial number and compare the device with the equipment listed in your prepaid account.
- If the account does not clearly identify the device’s status or return instructions, contact Xfinity Prepaid support and ask them to confirm the serial number and the required return route before discarding it.
Where the kit came from affects return and refund handling
Xfinity Prepaid’s product information directs customers who received kits from participating retailers to that retailer’s return or refund policy. For kits received from Xfinity, it directs customers to Xfinity Prepaid’s return and refund information. A retailer’s policy may therefore differ from Xfinity’s process for a kit bought directly from Xfinity.

What to do if Xfinity says the device is returnable
Use the prepaid account’s device-specific instructions
Xfinity Prepaid’s general support page says customers who need to return Comcast equipment, or no longer need the device, should drop it off at a Customer Service Center or Xfinity Store. Check the instructions associated with your prepaid account, since available choices can depend on the specific device and account.
Use general Xfinity return options only if they apply to your device
Xfinity’s general equipment-return instructions describe store drop-off and prepaid UPS shipping through the Digital Return Center. The Digital Return Center remains available after disconnection. If you use UPS, keep the tracking-number portion of the receipt as proof of return. Xfinity says it can take up to two weeks for a return to appear on the account; that is general Xfinity guidance, not a prepaid-specific processing guarantee. Follow the return options shown for your prepaid gateway.

Returning the modem does not guarantee a refund
Xfinity’s general 30-day money-back guarantee excludes Xfinity Prepaid service, gateways, WiFi modems, Starter Kits, and Modem Kits. If you bought the kit from a participating retailer, the retailer’s return or refund policy applies. Do not assume that returning a gateway entitles you to a refund of the kit price.

What to keep until the return question is settled
- Keep the gateway and kit receipt until Xfinity or the retailer confirms what to do.
- If you return the device, keep the store receipt or shipping tracking record.
- Check the prepaid account for updated equipment status after the return has been processed.
