Do PS Plus Games Stay Yours After You Claim Them?

Yes—an active PlayStation Plus membership is required to play monthly games you claimed through PS Plus. The games may remain associated with your account, but they become unavailable when the paid membership period ends. Canceling auto-renewal does not end access immediately: benefits continue until the current paid period expires.

What happens to claimed monthly games when PS Plus expires?

PlayStation Support says that when a subscription ends, content downloaded at no cost as part of it, including monthly games, is no longer available. In other words, claiming a monthly game adds it to your account’s PS Plus game history, but it is not the same as buying the game outright. You need eligible active membership access to play it.

Does canceling PS Plus remove access right away?

No. Turning off auto-renewal or canceling a subscription does not end the benefits you have already paid for. PlayStation’s U.K. cancellation guidance says membership benefits continue until the end of the current subscription payment period; monthly games become unavailable after that period ends: PlayStation Plus cancellation guidance.

Is a monthly game different from a Game Catalog title?

Yes. A monthly game you claimed is a membership benefit tied to an active subscription. Extra’s Game Catalog and Premium’s Classics Catalog are libraries that require the corresponding membership tier. Catalog availability can also change: some titles have announced end dates and leave the service. That is separate from the access change that occurs when a monthly-game claimant’s membership expires.

PlayStation outlines the plan libraries and monthly games on its U.S. PlayStation Plus games page. For a catalog title, check that it is still offered in your region and that your account has the tier required to access it.

What if you resubscribe later?

If the game was a monthly claim, restoring an eligible active membership on the account used to claim it restores the membership access needed to play it, provided the game remains available to that account under PlayStation’s applicable terms. If it was a catalog game instead, resubscribing alone may not be enough: the title must still be in the catalog, and you need the relevant tier.

What stays yours after membership ends?

A game you bought at a PS Plus discount is a purchase, not a no-cost monthly claim, and remains yours after the subscription ends. PlayStation also says redeemed PS Plus packs and avatars remain yours. The distinction is whether you paid to purchase the game or added it as a monthly membership game at no extra cost.
