Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteNo vBIOS flash is called for by AMD’s cited guidance. For the GPU-register issue CVE-2024-21969, AMD lists a Windows graphics-driver mitigation for Radeon RX 7000 discrete cards. The related protection mode is off by default and must be enabled by an administrator.
What AMD’s security notice covers
AMD-SB-6013, “Uninitialized GPU Register Access,” concerns CVE-2024-21969. AMD describes a flaw in which GPU registers may not be cleared correctly, allowing a malicious shader to read leftover pixel data and potentially compromise confidentiality. AMD rates the issue Medium severity; that rating is not an estimate of risk to any particular user.

For RX 7000 series discrete graphics cards on Windows, AMD lists AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.6.1 (25.10.13.01), released June 5, 2025, as the mitigation driver. The bulletin identifies a software mitigation, not a card vBIOS update. See AMD’s AMD-SB-6013 advisory.
What the mitigation does—and its trade-off
AMD’s mitigation mode prevents processes from running in parallel on the GPU and clears registers between processes on supported products. AMD states: “This mode is not enabled by default and needs to be set by an administrator.” The setting may reduce performance, particularly on systems where multiple processes would otherwise use the GPU at the same time. Consult the applicable AMD release notes or product documentation for instructions for your product.

What RX 7000 owners should do
- Identify your operating system and exact graphics product. Confirm that the driver and mitigation guidance apply to your RX 7000 card.
- Check AMD’s current download page for your card and operating system. The 25.6.1 entry is the version listed in AMD-SB-6013 for this mitigation, not a statement that it is the newest driver today. Use AMD’s driver and support downloads to find the package currently offered for your hardware.
- Install the applicable graphics driver, then review the product-specific instructions for mitigation mode. The driver entry alone does not mean the mode is enabled; AMD says an administrator must enable it.
- Consider your workload before enabling the mode. If multiple workloads share the GPU, account for AMD’s warning that performance may be affected.
Windows and Linux are not interchangeable here
AMD-SB-6013 lists the RX 7000 discrete-card mitigation under Windows. Its cited table does not provide a corresponding Linux mitigation entry for discrete RX 7000 cards. Linux users should consult AMD’s current Linux support guidance rather than assume the Windows driver entry or its instructions apply.

AMD publishes separate bulletins for separate vulnerabilities. AMD-SB-6018 (August 2025) and AMD-SB-6024 (February 2026) include different CVEs and RX 7000 software-mitigation entries. For example, their listed driver versions include 24.10.1 for CVE-2024-36352 and 25.6.1 for CVE-2024-36324, respectively; those entries do not replace or redefine the CVE-2024-21969 guidance in AMD-SB-6013. Check the CVE and product family in the relevant notice rather than treating every AMD security update as a vBIOS fix. See AMD-SB-6018 and AMD-SB-6024.
