Yes. Kindle Store books tied to your Amazon account are available on a new Kindle registered to that same account. You may need to download them to the new device; an account library is not the same as a copy of every file stored on your old Kindle. Reading position, notes, and highlights can also sync when sync is enabled and the devices connect to the internet.
What transfers—and what does not
Kindle Store books
Your Kindle Store library is associated with your Amazon account, rather than being limited to one Kindle. Register the replacement to the account used for the books, then look in the Library’s “All” view. A title can appear in your library without being downloaded to the device. Amazon’s Kindle library guidance and device registration guidance explain account access.

Reading position, notes, and highlights
With sync enabled and an internet connection, Kindle saves reading position, notes, and highlights to Amazon’s servers and syncs them with linked Kindle apps and devices. Amazon states: “Sync automatically backs up and saves data from your Kindle devices and apps, including your reading position, notes, and highlights, to Amazon’s servers.” See Amazon’s sync settings guidance.
Handwritten Kindle Scribe annotations
Amazon’s sync guidance distinguishes text-based annotations from handwriting: text-based annotations can be accessed across Kindle surfaces after sync, while handwritten annotations are currently accessible only across Kindle Scribe devices. Scribe notebooks are cloud-backed when the device is online and sync is turned on.

Files stored only on the old Kindle
Account-based library access does not guarantee that files present only on the old device will appear on the new one. The guidance cited here covers Amazon account content and Kindle sync; it does not establish that every locally stored file is copied automatically.
Set up the new Kindle and get your books
- Register the new Kindle to the same Amazon account associated with the books. Follow Amazon’s device registration instructions.
- Connect the Kindle to the internet and run Sync. Open Library, switch to “All,” and download the titles you want on the device. Sync and downloading are separate from simply having access to the account library.
- If a title is not visible or will not download, check Manage Your Content and Devices. Select the book and use the delivery option to send it to the registered Kindle, then sync again. See Amazon’s content delivery guidance.
- If the book is still missing, confirm the new Kindle is registered to the account that purchased or added it, clear Library filters, and check the digital order if a recent purchase is absent from account content. Amazon’s missing Kindle content troubleshooting covers these checks.
Before you reset or give away the old Kindle
Connect the old Kindle to the internet and sync it before you factory-reset, sell, or give it away. A reset removes personal data, downloaded content, and content that has not synced; it also deregisters the device. Amazon’s factory reset guidance describes what is removed. Amazon also warns that notes, highlights, or bookmarks created while sync is disabled may be lost when sync is turned back on.

Deregistering removes the Amazon account from that device and temporarily cuts off access to the account’s digital content and Amazon services on it. Re-registering restores access. That is different from deleting the books from the account library.
