Sometimes—but a high score does not guarantee that a phone will feel noticeably faster for routine tasks. It is most useful as a sign of potential performance headroom for demanding work, particularly graphics-heavy gaming. For messaging, browsing, maps and video playback, the score alone is a weak buying guide: compare phones using the same AnTuTu version and platform, then consider how they perform in the tasks you actually do.
What an AnTuTu score measures
AnTuTu is a synthetic benchmark: it runs a collection of tests and combines results into an overall score. The number is not a direct measure of how quickly every app opens, how smoothly every screen scrolls, or how long a particular game will run at a stable frame rate. It is a summary of performance in the benchmark’s tests, not a universal rating of the whole phone experience.

AnTuTu’s Android Standard download page, whose listing was updated October 10, 2026, describes version 12.0.2 as having four modules and hundreds of tests. The modules are CPU, GPU, memory (MEM) and user experience (UX). Each looks at a different part of device performance, so the combined result can conceal differences that matter for a particular task.
In its September 22, 2026 V12 public beta announcement, AnTuTu said it revised all four areas. It described CPU models intended to better reflect everyday workloads, UX tests intended to more closely follow system rendering and response, and GPU tests aimed at complex graphics and heavy-load behavior. Those statements explain what the benchmark maker says it is trying to measure; they do not prove that the final score predicts every person’s experience.

The distinction between a benchmark’s design and what it can establish about real use is important. A test can include models intended to resemble everyday tasks without measuring every app, phone configuration or person’s perception. AnTuTu’s description helps explain what contributes to a score, but it is not a guarantee that a particular device will feel smoother in every situation.
Why the subscore can matter more than the total
If a task leans heavily on graphics, the GPU result is more relevant than a small difference in the aggregate score. CPU-intensive work points attention toward the CPU result; memory-heavy activity makes MEM worth inspecting; and UX is relevant to the benchmark’s tests of system experience. These are useful directions for comparison, not guarantees: an individual app may behave differently from the benchmark workload.
A single total can rise because of strength in one area while another area changes little. When two phones have close overall results, look at the relevant module as well as the total. If the benchmark version or platform differs, however, even the subscore comparison may not be valid.
For example, when choosing between phones for graphics-heavy games, a higher total is less informative than knowing whether the comparison is valid and what the GPU results show. If your main concern is ordinary interface use, the UX module may be relevant, but it still does not amount to an app-by-app responsiveness rating. Let the score help identify a question to investigate rather than treating it as the answer.
When a higher score is likely to matter
A higher result is most meaningful when the phone is asked to do work that stresses the tested components. Demanding games and graphics-intensive tasks are the clearest examples. A stronger result can indicate more headroom for that sort of load, but it does not by itself tell you how a specific game will perform over a long session.
| Typical use | How much the score can help | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Messaging, calls and light social apps | Usually a limited clue. A high score alone does not establish a noticeably better experience for these tasks. | Compare the actual phones in the apps and interface experience that matter to you. |
| Web browsing, maps and video playback | One clue among many, rather than a reliable prediction of everyday smoothness. | Do not infer a proportional difference in perceived speed from a score gap. |
| Demanding games and complex graphics | More relevant, particularly the GPU result, because these workloads can place heavier demands on tested components. | Look for evidence about the specific game and sustained performance, not just a short benchmark run. |
| Heavy multitasking or other intensive workloads | Potentially useful as an indicator of headroom; the relevant CPU, memory and UX results may offer more context than the aggregate. | Consider the workload itself and avoid treating a synthetic result as an app-by-app guarantee. |
This distinction is about workload, not a universal cutoff. AnTuTu’s published materials do not establish a score that guarantees smooth everyday use, or quantify how much faster one phone will feel than another. A score gap should not be translated into an equally large difference in what a person notices.

That is why a higher score may matter to one buyer and make little practical difference to another. Someone who regularly plays demanding games has a reason to care about graphics performance and sustained behavior. Someone whose usual routine is messages, web pages, maps and video has less reason to treat a score lead as decisive. This is a workload-based way to use benchmark results, not a promise that every person in either group will notice the same thing.

Match the major AnTuTu version
Compare results only when the phones were tested with the same major AnTuTu version. AnTuTu said its V12 test-suite changes mean that scores for the same device naturally differ from V11 and are not directly comparable. The difference reflects a changed benchmark as well as the phone; it is not evidence that the device itself became faster or slower.
AnTuTu’s September 22, 2026 announcement put it plainly: “Because AnTuTu V12 includes changes and optimizations to its test suite, scores for the same device will naturally differ from those recorded in AnTuTu V11.” This is why the version label belongs beside any score comparison. Two figures bearing the AnTuTu name do not necessarily represent the same set of tests or a common scale.
The current Android Standard listing shows version 12.0.2, updated October 10, 2026, while the V12 public beta announcement was published September 22, 2026. Check which version produced a score instead of assuming that two numbers labelled AnTuTu come from the same tests. A result from V11 should not be ranked against a V12 result as if they were measured on a single scale.
Stay within the same platform
Do not compare Android and iOS results as if they were interchangeable. AnTuTu says its iOS and Android versions use different software methods and graphics APIs. Its guidance is to compare within the same operating system and major benchmark version, not across platforms or versions. A cross-platform ranking can therefore suggest a precision that the test design does not support.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This matters even if a chart places Android and iPhone scores side by side. The fact that the output is expressed as a number does not make the underlying methods identical. Use a same-platform comparison to get a meaningful benchmark reference, and evaluate phones across platforms using the considerations that matter to you rather than treating their AnTuTu totals as a common scorecard.

Read rankings as averages, not promises
AnTuTu’s V11 smartphone ranking page, updated August 2026, says each device’s listed score is an average of valid data and that the ranking is updated monthly. The page describes its global data as excluding mainland China. Treat a listed result as an indication based on submitted test data, not the guaranteed score of every handset with that name. Individual results and conditions can differ from an average.
A ranking is useful for seeing how reported device results sit relative to one another within the ranking’s stated context. It does not mean that every retail unit will achieve the listed average, or that every owner will experience the same performance. Also note the ranking’s version: the cited August 2026 list is a V11 ranking, so it should not be used as a direct V12 comparison.
Test conditions also matter. AnTuTu’s V12 announcement gives reference measurements taken at 26°C ± 1°C, with battery charge above 80% and screen brightness fixed at 300 nits. Those are reported controlled conditions for reference testing, not a promise that a phone will produce the same result at a different temperature, charge level or brightness—or during prolonged real-world use.
These conditions help explain why a published result should not be treated as a fixed outcome in every setting. The stated temperature, charge and brightness describe the reference measurements in the V12 announcement. They do not establish how each phone will behave under a different set of conditions, nor do they settle questions about extended gaming sessions.
How to use scores when choosing between phones
Use the benchmark to narrow or contextualize a comparison, not to make the decision by itself. Start with the phones’ exact results and ask whether they are genuinely comparable. Then connect the relevant module to your own workload and seek evidence about the actual use case where the score leaves questions unanswered.
- Confirm the test version. Check that both numbers were produced by the same major AnTuTu version. Do not treat V11 and V12 totals as directly comparable.
- Confirm the platform. Keep Android comparisons with Android and iOS comparisons with iOS. AnTuTu says its versions across those platforms are not comparable.
- Check what the number represents. Determine whether it is a single device result or a ranking average. For the V11 ranking updated August 2026, AnTuTu says the figures are averages of valid data, updated monthly, for global data excluding mainland China.
- Look at the relevant module. Give more attention to GPU for graphics-heavy games, or to the CPU, MEM or UX result when it better matches the work you care about. Treat the aggregate as context rather than a task-specific verdict.
- Check evidence for the real task. For a game you intend to play, look for results on that game and information about sustained performance. AnTuTu’s total score alone does not establish how a particular model behaves in prolonged use.
- Make the final comparison around your priorities. If your use is mostly light everyday activity, do not pay or switch solely because one number is higher. If you regularly run demanding workloads, performance headroom may carry more weight—but the score still needs to be read alongside task-specific evidence.
As you compare, keep the question specific. “Which phone has the higher total?” is not the same as “Which one is better for the game I play?” The first can be answered by the score only when the test versions and platforms match. The second needs information about that game and how the phone performs over time. For browsing or messaging, a large benchmark lead does not tell you how much faster the phone will feel in your own routine.

It is also reasonable to decide that the benchmark is not a major factor for your needs. If both candidates are being considered for light everyday use, and you have no particular intensive workload to compare, the score by itself does not establish a meaningful advantage. If performance-heavy use is central, the result can help you focus on the relevant module and identify what real-use evidence to seek.
What the score cannot tell you
AnTuTu’s modules cover several performance dimensions, but the combined figure does not describe every factor that shapes the experience of a phone. It cannot, by itself, establish whether a particular app feels responsive to you, whether a game maintains performance throughout a long session, or how large a score difference will seem in daily use. The official materials describe benchmark design and results; they do not provide an independent head-to-head study of user-perceived everyday speed across current phone models.
There is consequently no evidence-backed universal answer to “What AnTuTu score is enough for smooth everyday use?” in these published materials. A threshold would suggest that phones above it are reliably smooth and those below it are not, but the score does not establish that boundary. Smoothness depends on the specific device and the tasks being compared, and the benchmark total is only one piece of evidence.
Nor does the benchmark establish how a score difference maps to a person’s perception. The published materials do not quantify whether a particular gap will feel small, obvious or irrelevant in everyday use. Avoid claims such as “twice the score means twice as fast”: the benchmark’s aggregate is not a direct scale of perceived speed.
For ordinary use, the practical question is whether a phone handles your own apps and habits well, not whether it clears a score target. For heavier work, the benchmark is more informative as a signal of potential headroom—but actual workload results remain more directly relevant than a synthetic total.

Does a higher AnTuTu score mean my phone will feel faster?
Not necessarily. A higher score can indicate more performance headroom in the components AnTuTu tests, but the published materials do not quantify how much faster a person will perceive one phone to be. For light everyday tasks, the score alone is not a reliable guarantee of a noticeably smoother experience.
Best Value
What AnTuTu score is enough for smooth everyday use?
AnTuTu’s published materials do not establish a universal score threshold for smooth everyday use. The benchmark total is one clue, not a cutoff that guarantees a smooth phone above it or an unsmooth phone below it. Consider the specific phone and the apps you use.
Can I compare an AnTuTu V11 score with a V12 score?
No, not as if they were measured on one scale. AnTuTu says changes to the V12 test suite mean the same device can receive a different score from V11, and the results are not directly comparable. Compare phones tested with the same major version.
Can I compare Android and iPhone AnTuTu scores?
AnTuTu says its Android and iOS versions use different software methods and graphics APIs. It recommends comparisons within the same operating system and major benchmark version, not across platforms.
Recommended Free Tools
Which AnTuTu result should I check for gaming?
For graphics-heavy games, the GPU result is particularly relevant, but it does not predict how a specific game will run throughout a long session. Check evidence for the actual game and sustained performance as well as the benchmark result.
Are AnTuTu ranking scores guaranteed for every phone of that model?
No. AnTuTu’s V11 ranking page describes device figures as averages of valid data, updated monthly, and says its global data excludes mainland China. An average is indicative, not a guaranteed result for every handset or use condition.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: A high AnTuTu score can be useful evidence of performance headroom, especially for demanding games and graphics-heavy tasks, but it does not guarantee a faster-feeling phone for everyday use. Compare the same major version on the same platform, look at the module that matches your workload, and prioritize results from the actual apps or games you care about.
