Yes, a supported Galaxy S23 can keep two lines enabled at once—usually one nano-SIM and one eSIM—but that does not mean two eSIMs, two calls, or two mobile-data connections work simultaneously. The S23 uses Dual SIM Dual Standby: both lines can be available while the phone is idle, but one line is temporarily unavailable for calls and data during a call on the other. Exact eSIM support depends on the regional model and carrier.
What “at the same time” means on a Galaxy S23
Samsung lists the US Galaxy S23 Verizon business model as Dual SIM, with a “Nano / eSIM” slot type. That supports using one physical nano-SIM and one eSIM together on that specified variant; it is not proof that every regional S23 has identical SIM support. Samsung’s US specifications describe that model.

Samsung says most Galaxy devices can have only one eSIM active at a time. For most S23 owners, the practical dual-line arrangement is therefore a physical SIM plus an eSIM, not two active eSIMs. Confirm the exact model number and carrier compatibility before buying or transferring a plan. Samsung’s eSIM transition guidance directs customers to their service provider and reflects Canadian availability; its carrier information may change. Samsung Gulf’s eSIM and SIM guide describes the one-active-eSIM limitation for most Galaxy devices.

| Function | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Outgoing calls | You can choose a preferred SIM for calls in SIM manager. Both lines may be available while the phone is idle, but not as two independent active voice-call connections. |
| Incoming calls during a call | Samsung describes Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS): while one SIM has an active call, the other is deactivated for calls and data. The second number may not alert you during that call. |
| Texts | You can set a preferred SIM for text messages. Carrier- and app-specific services such as RCS or voicemail may behave differently, so check the provider and messaging app for the line you intend to use. |
| Mobile data | Select one SIM for mobile data. The phone does not use both lines for mobile data at once. Data switching can use the other SIM if the preferred one cannot connect; charges may apply. |
Samsung’s S23-series manual describes the fallback as: “Data switching: Set the device to use another SIM card for data services if the preferred SIM card cannot connect to the network.” This is a failover option, not simultaneous data. The manual also says the other SIM’s data service is unavailable during a call on the first SIM in the DSDS behavior it documents. Galaxy S23 series manual (EU English, April 17, 2024).

Can the other number ring while you are on a call?
Samsung documents a “Dual SIM always on” option that can forward calls to the other line while one SIM is in use. It relies on call forwarding supported by the carrier; availability and charges depend on carrier and region. It is a forwarding workaround, not two simultaneously active lines for voice calls. Samsung’s service guidance describes DSDS and this forwarding option; behavior and setting names can vary by region and software. Samsung Electronics Service dual-SIM guidance.
How to add an eSIM and choose which line to use
- Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager.
- Tap Add eSIM. For carrier QR activation, choose Add eSIM > Scan QR code and scan the code supplied by your carrier. The carrier may offer a different activation method or may not support eSIM on your model.
- Return to SIM manager to set preferred SIMs for calls and text messages, and select the SIM for mobile data. Configure data switching there if you want the phone to fall back when the preferred data SIM cannot connect.
These paths are from Samsung’s S23-series manual. Menu wording can differ by software release or region, and a carrier may need to activate or transfer the eSIM.

Check your model and carrier before relying on dual SIM
Samsung’s specifications and support pages are variant- and region-specific. Its Australian eSIM list includes the S23 series but explicitly applies to Australian devices; it should not be treated as confirmation for an imported phone or a different market. Samsung Australia’s eSIM compatibility guide (updated September 21, 2026) states that regional limitation.
