Choose the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 if you want a dedicated camera; choose the Insta360 Flow if you want to stabilize your phone and add tracking, a selfie stick and a tripod. They are not two cameras competing on equal terms: Pocket 3 captures video with its own sensor and lens, while Flow moves and stabilizes a compatible smartphone. The right pick depends on whether you want a self-contained camera or a more capable phone-video setup.
What is the difference between Pocket 3 and Flow?
The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is a standalone three-axis gimbal camera. It has its own 1-inch CMOS sensor, lens and rotatable 2-inch screen. The Insta360 Flow is a three-axis smartphone gimbal: your phone remains the camera, so its sensor, lens, recording options and image processing determine the footage. DJI lists the Pocket 3’s camera specifications and product details; Insta360 describes Flow on its product page.

| Decision | DJI Osmo Pocket 3 | Insta360 Flow |
|---|---|---|
| What records the video? | The Pocket 3’s built-in camera and 1-inch CMOS sensor (DJI specifications: DJI). | Your mounted phone; capture quality and options depend on the phone and app (Insta360: Flow product page). |
| Stabilization and tracking | Three-axis mechanical stabilization and ActiveTrack 6.0 (DJI: specifications). | Three-axis stabilization and AI-powered Deep Track 3.0; supported functions vary by phone and app (Insta360: product page). |
| Built-in framing or support | Integrated 2-inch rotatable screen. | Built-in 215 mm selfie stick and tripod; the product page describes a magnetic phone mount as sold separately, while specifications list a magnetic phone clamp. Check the selected kit’s contents (Insta360: product page). |
| Storage | No built-in storage; requires a microSD card, with support for cards up to 1 TB (DJI: support and downloads). | Video is recorded by the phone, so available storage depends on the handset and recording setup. |
Which gives you more control over image quality and video formats?
Choose Pocket 3 for a dedicated capture system
DJI lists normal video recording up to 4K/60fps and 4K/120fps slow motion. The 120fps option is specifically for slow-motion mode, not ordinary real-time 4K recording. Its dedicated sensor and lens make Pocket 3 the more self-contained choice when you want a camera separate from your phone.

Choose Flow to keep using your phone’s camera
Flow does not give a phone a new sensor or lens. It stabilizes the phone, and the phone and app determine resolution, frame rate, native camera features and image quality. That can be convenient if you already like your phone’s camera, but do not assume every Flow-supported phone exposes the same controls or recording features.
Which is better for tracking and filming yourself?
Flow’s strongest workflow advantage is its combination of Deep Track 3.0 subject tracking and built-in support hardware. Its selfie stick and tripod can help when you need to set up a shot, step away from the rig or change framing without carrying separate support gear. Insta360 says full functionality uses the Insta360 app; some functions are unavailable when tracking with the iPhone’s native camera and iOS apps. Check the Flow product details for the specific workflow you plan to use.

Pocket 3 offers ActiveTrack 6.0 and a rotatable screen, making it a compact, self-contained option for framing and following a subject. It avoids mounting and balancing a phone, but it does not serve as a stabilizer for footage recorded on your phone.
Will Flow fit your phone, and what setup does each require?
Insta360 specifies a supported phone range of 64–84 mm wide, 6.9–10 mm thick and 130–300 g. Those are manufacturer fit specifications; check the dimensions with your case attached if you intend to keep it on. Insta360 also cautions that feature support varies by handset and can change as phone makers update devices. Confirm your exact model and the functions you need in the current compatibility list before buying.

- 3-Axis Gimbal Mechanical Stabilisation Active Track 6.0 | D-Log M 10-Bi
- Full-Pixel Fast Focusing Black/Grey Colour
- Pocket 3: DJI Mimo activation is required on first use, and you need a compatible microSD card because the camera has no built-in storage. Check DJI’s download and support page for app requirements and storage guidance.
- Flow: You need a compatible phone, the phone clamp and a Bluetooth connection to the Insta360 app. Check handset-specific support rather than assuming that iPhone and Android behave identically.
How should you compare their battery life?
The headline runtime figures come from different manufacturer tests, so they are not a head-to-head measure of filming time.
| Product | Manufacturer runtime claim | Test conditions and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| DJI Osmo Pocket 3 | 166 minutes (DJI reference test; support page accessed 2026). | At 25°C, recording 1080p/24fps with Wi-Fi and the screen off. See DJI support. |
| Insta360 Flow | 12 hours (Insta360 hardware specification; accessed 2026). | At 25°C with the gimbal balanced and held steady; this is not a claim of 12 hours of active tracking while filming. Runtime decreases when Flow charges a phone. See Insta360 specifications. |
These manufacturer figures describe different workloads. Do not use them alone to predict how long either setup will last during your own recording session.
