Yes, but by less than the headline numbers suggest. DJI’s Osmo 360 II, announced on September 3, 2026, adds an upgraded low-light mode called AI SuperNight 2.0 that can run at up to 60fps, where the original camera’s SuperNight was capped at 30fps. In TechRadar’s hands-on review, the new mode looked significantly cleaner and sharper than the original. In the same outlet’s side-by-side test against the Insta360 X6, though, the X6 retained a slight image-quality edge after dark. The improvement is real, but it is evolutionary, and the choice between the two cameras depends on what you shoot at night.
What DJI changed for low-light shooting
The main low-light upgrade is AI SuperNight 2.0, which replaces the mode on the original Osmo 360. DJI pairs it with a square HDR imaging sensor and a claimed 14.5 stops of dynamic range. Those dynamic-range and noise-reduction figures are manufacturer claims from DJI’s launch announcement, not independent measurements.

The most practical change is frame rate. According to TechRadar’s hands-on review by Sam Kieldsen (September 2026), SuperNight 2.0 can record at up to 60fps, instead of the 30fps ceiling of the original camera’s mode. That matters if you film a skate session, a bike ride or a dog run after sunset, where 30fps can look choppy when you reframe the 360 view in post.

What the hands-on review found in low light
Kieldsen says he was underwhelmed by the original Osmo 360’s SuperNight, calling it decent but no more. He says the new mode looks clearly better, with less noise and more detail than the original. He also notes that daylight footage remains sharper and more detailed than night footage on this camera, which is the normal ceiling for any compact 360 device.
Two limits come with the mode. SuperNight 2.0 cannot record in D-Log M, the flat log profile many editors use for grading. Standard color and Adaptive Tone remain available. If your workflow depends on log footage at night, you will need to shoot in a different mode or accept a Standard or Adaptive Tone grade.

Osmo 360 II vs Insta360 X6 in low light
TechRadar’s matched comparison mounted both cameras to a car and matched settings and conditions. Daytime footage was exported at 10-bit/100Mbps and nighttime footage at 10-bit/160Mbps. Those export settings describe the test setup, not a camera rating.

At night the X6 had a slight image-quality edge, with a default tint that leans greener and yellower and can be corrected in post. DJI’s higher SuperNight frame-rate ceiling is the main reason to choose the Osmo 360 II for after-dark action. This is one reviewer’s matched test, not a universal ranking.

Battery life and test conditions
DJI says the camera records continuously for 100 minutes at 8K/30fps. That figure comes from DJI’s own test conditions: 25°C, 8K/30fps, Wi-Fi and voice/gesture controls off, Editing Assistant off, and screen off. Real shooting with the screen on, the app connected or heavy stabilisation editing will land below that.

The Battery Extension Rod is DJI’s stated way to add runtime, with a claimed 180 extra minutes. DJI also says fast charging reaches 80% in 22 minutes. TechRadar’s reviewer found a heat-related limit in his 22°C maximum-8K test, where the camera shut down to cool after approximately 34 minutes. Plan for breaks on long hot-weather sessions regardless of the battery figure.
Regional availability
DJI’s launch announcement describes a global launch. TechRadar reported in September 2026 that DJI’s US regulatory authorization was still pending. Before you buy, check the DJI store and retailers in your own country for current stock, and confirm the product’s regional spec sheet and warranty terms.

Accessories and protection
- Battery Extension Rod: DJI’s add-on for longer outings. Confirm compatibility with your exact model before buying.
- DJI Mic 3 and other direct-connect microphones: DJI lists DJI Mic 3, Mic 2, Mic Mini 2S, Mic Mini 2 and Mic Mini as direct-connection compatible. The built-in four-microphone array with wind-noise reduction covers most casual use, so add external audio only for dialogue-heavy shoots.
- DJI Care Refresh: an optional protection plan. DJI says the one-year plan allows up to two replacements and the two-year plan up to four. Check current country terms before counting on it.
Who should buy the Osmo 360 II
- Choose it if night action shooting at 60fps matters more to you than the best possible after-dark image quality.
- Choose it if you want 105 GB of built-in storage and a longer-lasting, more favourable lens-replacement option, provided it is sold in your region.
- Choose the Insta360 X6 if you shoot mostly after dark, need the 20 m waterproof rating, or want a longer battery in the reviewer-cited specifications.
- Check pricing and availability in your market first, because the reviewed sources do not give a current price comparison.
Verdict
DJI’s Osmo 360 II makes low-light 360 video better in ways you can see, with cleaner night footage and up to 60fps in SuperNight 2.0. It does not overtake the Insta360 X6 in the one matched night comparison available, and it gives up some waterproofing and battery life. Buy it for faster night frame rates and storage, not for the best possible night image.
