Choose the Mini 4 Pro if it is meaningfully cheaper where you live, its 4K/60fps HDR and true vertical shooting meet your needs, and you value DJI’s stated weight of under 249 g for the standard aircraft. For current Mini 4 Pro owners, an upgrade makes sense when a specific Mini 5 Pro feature solves a real need—not simply because it is newer.
Mini 5 Pro vs Mini 4 Pro: the key differences
The Mini 5 Pro’s headline changes are its 1-inch sensor, higher listed slow-motion frame rate, expanded internal storage, gimbal rotation, and LiDAR-assisted sensing. The Mini 4 Pro remains capable on core features such as 4K/60fps HDR, omnidirectional obstacle sensing, and vertical shooting.

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not results from a controlled head-to-head test. Maximum flight times and transmission distances are not ordinary-use guarantees: flight conditions, settings, obstacles, interference, and local rules affect what is practical. Neither obstacle-sensing system makes a drone collision-proof.
Which camera is better for your footage?
Choose Mini 5 Pro for the larger sensor and 4K/120fps
DJI lists a 1-inch, 50MP-maximum-pixel sensor for the Mini 5 Pro, compared with the Mini 4 Pro’s 1/1.3-inch sensor and 48MP effective pixels. That is a meaningful specification difference for buyers prioritizing the newer camera, but sensor size alone does not establish a quantified real-world image-quality advantage. The Mini 5 Pro also records listed 4K/120fps slow motion, while the Mini 4 Pro’s listed maximum is 4K/100fps. If you specifically want that higher frame rate, the newer model is the direct choice.
Mini 4 Pro still covers 4K/60fps HDR and vertical shooting
Both models list 4K/60fps HDR, so that format alone is not a reason to pay more for the Mini 5 Pro. The Mini 4 Pro’s true vertical shooting is also an established feature for portrait-oriented clips. The Mini 5 Pro’s 225-degree roll rotation enables a different kind of dynamic movement; it should not be treated as the same feature as true vertical shooting.

Is the Mini 5 Pro worth upgrading to from the Mini 4 Pro?
Upgrade if you will use a particular newer capability: the 1-inch camera, 4K/120fps slow motion, 42GB internal storage, 225-degree roll, or the added forward-facing LiDAR sensing described by DJI. Those features can matter for specific shooting or operating conditions.
Keep the Mini 4 Pro if its camera and 4K/60fps HDR already satisfy your work, you rely on true vertical shooting, or the price difference is better spent on batteries or other compatible equipment. The specifications do not support a blanket claim that every Mini 4 Pro owner should upgrade, and they do not establish a measured image-quality improvement.

How much longer does the Mini 5 Pro fly?
DJI rates the Mini 5 Pro for a maximum 36 minutes on its standard battery, compared with 34 minutes for the Mini 4 Pro: a two-minute difference between the maker’s stated maximums. With the optional Intelligent Flight Battery Plus, the listed maximums are 52 minutes and 45 minutes, respectively. These are controlled-condition maximum claims, not typical-flight promises; wind, temperature, flight style, and other conditions affect actual endurance.
The Plus battery increases aircraft weight. Check its availability and the resulting aircraft configuration against the rules where you plan to fly before relying on the higher-capacity option.

Is the Mini 5 Pro really under 250 g?
Do not treat a rounded weight label as a universal legal answer. DJI’s store listing displays 249 g for the Mini 5 Pro, while a 2025 independent comparison reports 249.9 g ±4 g. DJI’s Mini 4 Pro specifications state that the standard aircraft weighs under 249 g and that actual weight can vary. Battery and accessory configuration also matter; the Plus battery takes the aircraft above 249 g.
Rules depend on your country or region, aircraft configuration, use, and the regulations in force when you fly. DJI advertises C0 certification for the Mini 5 Pro on its EU product page, but that does not settle requirements everywhere. DJI’s Mini 4 Pro specification page advises: “Always check and strictly abide by local laws and regulations before flying.” Check the applicable aviation authority’s current rules rather than inferring registration or training requirements from the product name or a threshold printed on a listing.

Which drone is the better value in your country?
Compare current prices for equivalent packages, not just the lowest advertised aircraft price. Controller, battery count, charging hub, and other included accessories can change the value. As regional examples captured on DJI listings in 2026, the UK Mini 5 Pro listing showed £619, discounted from £689; a DJI Singapore search listing showed USD $739 for Mini 5 Pro and USD $629 for Mini 4 Pro. These are region- and listing-specific snapshots, not a globally comparable price list or a promise of current availability.
The Mini 5 Pro’s 42GB internal storage can be useful if a memory card is full or forgotten; the Mini 4 Pro lists 2GB. For regular recording, check DJI’s model-specific requirements and use a compatible high-speed microSD card. If considering filters, verify that an ND set fits your exact drone model; bundle contents, including filters, can differ by market.
What the transmission and sensing specifications mean in practice
DJI lists O4+ transmission and up to 20 km for the Mini 5 Pro in its stated conditions and market. For the Mini 4 Pro, DJI lists O4 with maximums of up to 20 km under FCC and 10 km under CE/SRRC/MIC conditions. These figures describe specified maximums, not a sensible distance to plan for every flight. Maintain a safe, legal flight plan and account for signal conditions and the applicable operating rules.
The Mini 5 Pro adds forward-facing LiDAR to DJI’s omnidirectional Nightscape sensing description. The Mini 4 Pro already has omnidirectional vision sensing and a bottom infrared sensor. LiDAR is most relevant if night sensing is a deciding feature for you; it does not remove the need to fly cautiously or guarantee obstacle avoidance in every environment.
