DJI lists the Mini 5 Pro at 249 g, but that figure does not create a worldwide exemption from registration or flight rules. The rules depend on where you fly, the aircraft’s actual configuration and class marking, and whether the operation is recreational. In particular, DJI warns that fitting an Intelligent Flight Battery Plus to a C0-certified aircraft takes it over the C0 maximum take-off mass threshold.
Is the DJI Mini 5 Pro under 250 g?
DJI’s product specification lists the Mini 5 Pro at 249 g. Treat that as the manufacturer’s figure for the specified aircraft configuration, not a universal legal classification: regulators apply their own rules to the aircraft as flown, and the battery and class marking can matter.

Check the battery and class label
DJI says its C0-certified Mini 5 Pro fitted with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus exceeds the C0 maximum take-off mass threshold and can no longer be operated as a C0 UAS in the EU. DJI also distinguishes the C0-certified aircraft in the Fly More Combo from the C1-certified aircraft in the Fly More Combo Plus, and warns that the Plus battery on the C0 aircraft exceeds the C0/UK0 threshold. These statements concern the configurations DJI identifies; check the marking on your aircraft and the battery installed rather than assuming every bundle is the same.
- Identify the exact aircraft and battery configuration before applying a weight-based rule.
- Check the aircraft’s class mark, if any. A C0 and a C1 aircraft do not automatically have the same operating conditions.
- Use the applicable national authority’s rules for the country and location where you intend to fly.
DJI’s product page also gives flight-time figures of 36 minutes with the standard Intelligent Flight Battery and 52 minutes with the Plus battery under DJI’s stated test conditions. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements, and do not determine the aircraft’s legal category.

Does the Mini 5 Pro need registration or Remote ID?
There is no single worldwide answer. The following summarizes official guidance for the United States, the United Kingdom and the EASA open category as accessed on 4 October 2026. Registration, pilot IDs and Remote ID are distinct requirements; one does not automatically satisfy the others.
| Jurisdiction | Registration or IDs | Remote ID |
|---|---|---|
| United States | The FAA recreational exception applies only to aircraft weighing 0.55 lb (250 g) or less when flown under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations. Other required-to-register operations do not qualify just because DJI lists the aircraft at 249 g. FAA registration guidance, accessed 4 October 2026. | Aircraft required to be registered, or that are registered, must comply with Remote ID, including recreational, business and public-safety operations. The FAA guidance and DJI manual, accessed 4 October 2026. |
| United Kingdom | A camera-equipped aircraft from 100 g to under 250 g requires both Flyer ID and Operator ID. From 250 g to under 25 kg, both are also required. UK CAA guidance, accessed 4 October 2026. | Requirements depend on class and aircraft type. The CAA lists UK1, UK2 and UK3 open-category aircraft from 1 January 2026, and UK0 aircraft weighing at least 100 g plus legacy camera-equipped aircraft weighing at least 100 g from 1 January 2028. UK CAA guidance, accessed 4 October 2026. |
| EASA open category | Operator registration is required for a drone with a camera or sensor unless it is a toy. EASA guidance, accessed 4 October 2026. | The guidance summarized here does not establish a blanket Remote ID requirement for every Mini 5 Pro configuration. Check the applicable national and aircraft-specific rules. |
United States: recreational registration is conditional
The FAA’s 0.55 lb (250 g) exemption is for aircraft flown under the recreational exception, not a general exemption for every flight. If your operation is not under that exception, do not infer from DJI’s 249 g specification that registration is unnecessary. The FAA also says drones required to be registered, or that are registered, must comply with Remote ID.

This is DJI’s description of the aircraft and system, not an independent test.

United Kingdom: both IDs apply to camera-equipped Mini drones
Under current CAA guidance, a camera-equipped Mini 5 Pro in the 100 g to under-250 g band still requires both a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. The UK threshold is not the same as the US recreational registration exemption. If the relevant aircraft weighs 250 g or more, the CAA also requires both IDs.

The CAA says a C-class-marked drone can be operated as its corresponding UK class through 31 December 2027. New models placed on the UK market from 1 January 2026 must carry a UK class mark, while an earlier purchase may lack one; in that case, assess it under the CAA’s weight-based guidance rather than assuming it has a class status it does not show.
The CAA’s Remote ID phase-in dates are class-specific. Its guidance lists requirements from 1 January 2026 for UK1, UK2 and UK3 open-category aircraft, and from 1 January 2028 for UK0 aircraft weighing 100 g or more and legacy aircraft weighing 100 g or more with a camera. Check the current CAA guidance against your actual class and configuration.

EASA open category: camera registration and C0 status
EASA’s open-category guidance says a C0 drone is under 250 g and requires operator registration when it has a camera or sensor and is not a toy. It gives a general open-category ceiling below 120 m above ground level. The C0 threshold does not override the battery warning from DJI: a C0-certified aircraft fitted with the Plus battery exceeds the C0 MTOM threshold, according to DJI. National rules and geo-zones still apply.
Where can you fly the Mini 5 Pro?
Weight alone does not tell you whether a location is legal. Check both the airspace or geo-zone and the operating category that applies to your aircraft and flight. A location may be restricted even when the aircraft is light, and an otherwise suitable location does not remove requirements about people, distance, height or authorization.

United States
For recreational flights in controlled airspace, the FAA requires authorization before flying. Check airspace restrictions and location-specific flight information before each flight. A map or consumer flight service can help identify restrictions, but the FAA places responsibility on the pilot to know the rules and choose a safe, lawful location.
United Kingdom
The CAA’s open-category conditions depend on the class, subcategory, people nearby and location. In A1, aircraft under 250 g or in UK0, UK1 or C0 may fly closer to and over uninvolved people under the category rules; that is not permission to fly anywhere or over an assembly of people. A2 has separation conditions that depend on class or weight and low-speed mode. A3 requires separation from uninvolved people and from residential, recreational, commercial or industrial areas. Check the CAA’s current detailed rules and local restrictions for the aircraft you actually have.
EASA open category
EASA’s open-category framework includes a general maximum height below 120 m above ground level, but the applicable subcategory and local geo-zone determine whether a particular flight is allowed. Check the national authority’s geo-zone information and restrictions for your intended site; the EU framework is not interchangeable with UK or US rules.

Pre-flight checks for a Mini 5 Pro
- Confirm your jurisdiction and purpose. Identify the country and local airspace, and whether the flight is recreational or another type of operation.
- Inspect the aircraft configuration. Check the battery, actual take-off configuration and any C0, C1, UK0 or UK1 marking. Do not assume the 249 g product listing applies to a Plus-battery C0 configuration.
- Complete the required registration or IDs. Apply the rules for that jurisdiction and operation; the US recreational exception, UK Flyer ID and Operator ID, and EASA operator registration are different regimes.
- Check location and operating conditions. Confirm airspace authorization or geo-zone status, the applicable category, separation from people and any local restrictions.
- Verify Remote ID prerequisites where applicable. Follow the relevant regulator’s requirement and DJI’s manual instructions, including the location-source and preflight-test conditions when they apply.
