Divi AI Agent Commands: How to Create, Run, and Manage Them

Save reusable instructions in the Divi AI Agent’s Commands list, invoke them with a slash or menu selection, then review and tailor the prompt before sending it.

In Divi 5’s Visual Builder, open the Divi AI Agent, save a reusable instruction from its Commands list, then invoke it when needed by typing / in the chat or selecting it from the list. Choosing a command inserts its text into the composer; it does not immediately change the page. Review the prompt, add any page-specific details, and send it when ready.

What you need before using commands

Commands require Divi 5 and access to Divi AI, according to Elegant Themes’ Divi AI Agent setup guide. Divi AI is available as a separate subscription or through Divi Pro. Agent usage draws on an AI Wallet balance funded by the subscription; check the terms shown in your account for current usage details.

How to create and run a command

  1. Open the page in the Divi 5 Visual Builder and select the Divi AI Agent icon.
  2. Open the Agent’s Commands list and choose Add New Command.
  3. Enter a short name in Title, then write the reusable instruction in Command.
  4. Save the command.
  5. To use it, type / in the Agent chat composer and choose the saved command, or select it from the Commands list.
  6. Read the inserted text. Add details that apply to the open page, revise the instruction if needed, and send it.

The command is a reusable prompt, not a recording of an earlier edit. It acts on the page open when you invoke it. Make its target explicit—for example, “in the pricing section on this page” or “for every image here”—so it remains clear when used on another page. The official command guide documents creation and invocation.

Choose Ask or Build before sending

Choose the Agent mode according to whether you want information or a page change. Elegant Themes’ mode guide distinguishes them as follows:

Mode Use it for What to expect
Ask Inspecting a page, asking how a feature works, or getting suggestions without changing page content or design. The Agent responds with information or recommendations rather than carrying out a page edit.
Build Adding, editing, moving, cloning, or deleting elements, or changing design settings. The Agent performs edits; some actions pause for approval before proceeding. Review proposed changes.

If a command is meant to inspect or explain, use Ask. If it should alter the page, use Build and check the proposed action before approving it.

When to use a Command, Rule, or Context

These options serve different purposes; choosing the one that matches the need keeps the Agent’s instructions easier to reuse. The Divi AI Agent commands guide, updated September 29, 2026, describes their roles:

Option Best for Example
Command A repeatable task you actively trigger when needed. Proofread headings and paragraphs for typos only.
Rule Standing guidance the Agent should follow, such as brand voice or preferred design conventions. Use the site’s established tone and design conventions.
Context A reference that identifies an element, preset, variable, or other target for the Agent. Point to a particular color variable, then say what to do with it.

Context identifies the reference; the prompt still needs to explain the action you want. A command can have context attached and can include other commands. The command reference notes one nesting constraint: a custom command already used as a nested command cannot be selected again in that nesting flow.

What to put in a reusable command

Save the part of the instruction that stays the same across jobs, then supply changing details before sending. For example, a command can say, “Review the page’s headings and paragraphs for typos only; do not rewrite for style.” If the target varies, add the section name or other detail in the composer after selecting it.

The official command reference gives these examples of recurring tasks:

  • Add descriptive alt text to images while preserving meaningful existing text.
  • Review heading order, color-contrast concerns, and images without alt text without changing anything.
  • Review a page at phone width and report cramped or overly wide elements.
  • Proofread headings and paragraphs for typos only.
  • Identify the colors, fonts, and spacing values actually used on a page.
  • Convert hard-coded color and spacing values to existing Global Variables where appropriate.
  • Find modules that mention an old company name before making changes.

For commands that could affect content or design, specify limits and scope in the instruction. “Identify images without alt text and report them” is an inspection task; “add descriptive alt text to every image on this page” asks for an edit. Select Ask or Build to match that outcome.

Edit, duplicate, or delete saved commands

Open the Commands list to manage saved custom commands. The command reference describes options to edit, duplicate, and delete them. To attach a reference, open the command editor, add a command, and select the relevant element, such as a preset or variable. This is useful when the command should repeatedly target a specific design reference rather than ask you to identify it each time.

How broad are the Agent’s capabilities?

Elegant Themes’ capability overview reports that the Agent ships with more than 190 purpose-built tools for Divi and WordPress. That is a vendor-reported feature count, not an independently audited measure. The same overview says site-level abilities are narrower than in-builder capabilities and that external-service connections through MCP had not shipped at the time the article was published. These product details can change; see the capability overview for its current account of the Agent.
