If Disney+ will not open, stays on its logo, spins forever, or plays to a black screen, the cause could be the service, your connection, the app or browser, your account, or the display equipment. Start by checking whether other apps work, then try Disney+ on another device or network. Those quick tests point to the right fix without jumping straight to reinstalling or resetting anything.
Find the likely cause with a quick check
Before changing settings, note what fails: opening the app, signing in, loading the catalog, or starting video. Then run these checks:
- Try another app or website on the same device. If that also fails or is slow, start with your internet connection.
- Try Disney+ on another device. If it works there, focus on the original device, app, browser, or display path.
- Switch networks if possible. For example, test a phone over cellular data instead of Wi-Fi. If Disney+ works on cellular but not home Wi-Fi, investigate the router, ISP, network filters, or congestion.
- Try another title. If only one movie or episode fails, the issue may be limited to that title or its authorization.
- Write down any error code. Disney’s error-code index provides the wording to use when choosing a next step.
If Disney+ fails on multiple devices and networks while other services work, a Disney+ account or service problem becomes more plausible. That pattern does not by itself confirm a service-wide outage.
Fix Disney+ in the least disruptive order
Test the same screen or title after each step. That makes it easier to tell which change helped.

1. Close Disney+ completely and reopen it
Exit the app rather than leaving it suspended behind the Home screen. If it is frozen, use the device’s quit or force-stop control. In a browser, close the Disney+ tab, then reopen the browser and visit Disney+ again. Relaunching can clear a stuck app process or session without deleting account information.
2. Restart the device
Restart the TV, streaming device, console, phone, tablet, or computer. Use a full restart, not just standby, where the device offers that choice. This can clear a temporary app or network-session problem.
3. Check the connection, then restart network equipment
If other apps or sites are also failing, resolve the connection first. Move closer to the router or use Ethernet where practical. Pause large downloads, cloud backups, game downloads, and other streams while testing. Strong Wi-Fi bars do not guarantee a stable connection: distance, interference, congestion, packet loss, and an ISP problem can still interrupt playback.
Disney identifies router distance, the number of connected devices, ISP outages, and high simultaneous demand as possible factors in streaming problems. Its streaming troubleshooting guidance recommends checking other apps and power-cycling equipment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Turn off the streaming device.
- Power off or unplug the modem and router.
- Wait briefly for the equipment to shut down.
- Start the modem and wait for it to reconnect.
- Start the router and allow it to reconnect.
- Restart the streaming device and open Disney+.
A speed test can help identify a slow connection, but one result cannot rule out instability, Wi-Fi interference, or congestion. Avoid factory-resetting a router as an early troubleshooting step.

4. Update Disney+ and the device
Check for an update to the Disney+ app and to the device’s operating system or firmware. On a computer, update the browser; on a console, check for system updates. Menu labels differ across Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Google TV, Samsung and LG TVs, consoles, and mobile devices, so use the platform’s app-management and system-update controls rather than relying on one universal path.
If the app is missing from the device’s official store or will not install, check Disney’s current supported-device information for your country and platform. Device support can change; an older device may no longer run the current app.
5. Clear temporary files or Disney+ site data
Clear cache removes temporary files and is generally less disruptive. Clear data or storage can sign you out and remove app preferences. The available controls vary by device, and some devices do not provide a separate cache option.
In a browser, clear Disney+-specific site data first rather than deleting all cookies. Removing all cookies can sign you out of unrelated websites. Disney lists cache and data clearing among its troubleshooting steps.
6. Reinstall the app if the earlier steps fail
- Uninstall Disney+ from the device.
- Restart the device.
- Install Disney+ again from the device’s official app store.
- Sign in and test playback.
Reinstalling can sign you out and remove downloaded content or saved local app state. It does not, by itself, cancel a subscription.

Choose a fix based on what you see
The app will not open or is stuck on the Disney+ logo
Force-close and relaunch it, restart the device, and check for app and system updates. If other apps work and Disney+ still will not open, try clearing the app cache if the device supports it. Reinstall only after the less disruptive steps.
The website refreshes or returns to the login screen
This can be caused by a stale browser session, cookies, an extension, or an authentication problem. Try a private or incognito window, then a current alternate browser. Temporarily disable extensions that may block scripts or content—such as ad blockers, privacy tools, script blockers, or VPN extensions—and test again. Re-enable protections after the test.

Disney says computer users should ensure JavaScript and cookies are enabled. Clear Disney+-specific site data if the login loop continues. On a school, workplace, hotel, or public network, complete any browser sign-in portal before opening the service.
Menus load, but a movie or episode will not start
Try another title, then restart the app and device. If other titles work, the failure may be title-specific rather than a general connection problem. If no video starts, test Disney+ on another device or network and check whether the account or subscription is authorized for the title.
Playback buffers, freezes, or stops after starting
Check whether another device or app is using the connection, pause large transfers, and move closer to the router or try Ethernet. Test another network if available. A connection can have adequate headline download speed yet still suffer from congestion, interference, or instability.

The screen is blank or black, or audio plays without video
A black screen can be a playback problem or a display-protection issue. If you are using a streaming stick, receiver, splitter, capture device, adapter, or external monitor, simplify the display chain:
Recommended Free Tools
- Disconnect unnecessary HDMI equipment.
- Connect the playback device directly to the TV.
- Try another HDMI input and reseat or replace the cable.
- Temporarily reduce the device’s output resolution or turn off HDR.
- Restart both the playback device and TV.
- Restore higher-resolution or HDR settings after playback works.
Disney says external displays should support HDCP 2.2 for 4K Ultra HD and HDR content. That qualification applies to those 4K/HDR display paths; it is not a universal requirement for every Disney+ stream. A browser video that goes black may also warrant testing another browser and temporarily disabling extensions.
Disney+ works on one device but not another
When it works on your phone but not your TV, focus on the TV’s app, firmware, storage, compatibility, or HDMI setup rather than repeatedly changing the account password. Fully restart the TV or streaming stick, update it, and try its built-in app if you normally use an external device—or the reverse. Clear the app cache or reinstall only if needed.
On a phone or tablet, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, check available storage, and update the app and operating system. If battery or data restrictions are enabled, temporarily relax them for a test, then restore your preferred settings.
On PlayStation or Xbox, quit Disney+ completely, restart the console, check app and system updates, and pause large game or system downloads while testing. Reinstall the app if the earlier steps do not help.

Disney+ works on Wi-Fi but not cellular, or the reverse
If it works on cellular but not Wi-Fi, investigate the home router, ISP, DNS filtering, parental controls, VPN or proxy settings, and network congestion. If it works on Wi-Fi but not cellular, check cellular coverage and the app’s cellular-data permissions; the mobile carrier or its network may also be involved. VPNs and filters can interfere with connections or location checks, but they are only one possible cause.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use Disney+ error codes as clues
The following descriptions reflect Disney’s current error-code index. A code narrows the next test; broad codes such as 83 and 1026 do not identify one guaranteed cause.
| Code | Disney+ wording or meaning | Useful first response |
|---|---|---|
| 83 | “Something went wrong” | Restart the app and device, check updates, and verify the device is supported. |
| 42 | Trouble connecting to the internet | Test the network, restart the router, and try another connection if possible. |
| 73 | Content unavailable in the current location | Check your location and account region; do not assume VPN use is the only possible cause. |
| 75 | Maximum number of devices streaming | Stop playback on other devices and check active streams. |
| 39 | Content not authorized for the account | Check the account, title availability, and subscription entitlement. |
| 41 / 43 | Trouble playing the title | Try another title, restart, update, and test another device. |
| 91 / 92 | Temporarily throttled because of high request volume | Stop repeated retries and wait before trying again. |
| 93 | Suspicious account activity detected | Secure and verify the account; contact Disney+ if access remains blocked. |
| 1026 | General problem requiring the app to be exited | Fully close and relaunch; if multiple devices fail, investigate a broader service or account issue. |
| 142 | Trouble connecting to the service | Check for a possible service-side issue and test another network. |
Check the account when loading succeeds but sign-in or access fails
If the app and catalog load but authentication fails, confirm you are using the correct MyDisney email and password. Disney+ uses MyDisney login details; Disney notes that changing the Disney+ email or password can update login information across Disney-related services. See its app troubleshooting guidance for account and app steps.
If you recently changed the password, use the new one. Try signing in through the official Disney+ website to distinguish a device-app issue from an account issue. Avoid repeated login attempts if authentication appears unavailable. For a locked or flagged account, use Disney’s account recovery or support flow rather than continuing to retry.

As of August 18, 2026, the available sources do not establish a confirmed Disney+ service-wide outage. A current incident can be regional or temporary, so check Disney’s official communications and the Help Center when the problem affects several devices and networks.
An outage-reporting service such as Downdetector can show whether users are reporting similar symptoms. Those reports are not official confirmation and cannot establish the cause. One failed TV app, especially when Disney+ works elsewhere, points more strongly to that device or its connection.
When to contact Disney+ support
Contact Disney+ if the problem remains after restarting the app, device, and network; checking updates; clearing relevant cache or site data; and reinstalling where appropriate. Support is also the right next step for recurring account, subscription, suspicious-activity, or entitlement errors, or if Disney+ is absent from the app store on a device you believe is supported. Disney’s troubleshooting page directs users to support when its steps do not resolve the problem.
