The original Switch edition is also supported on Switch 2, but Nintendo says it behaves consistently with the original Switch version. That compatibility does not establish that the older edition receives the dedicated version’s enhancements.
What changes in the dedicated Switch 2 edition?
Nintendo and publisher THQ Nordic describe four differences for the Switch 2 edition: higher-resolution visuals, an improved framerate, mouse-style controls using Joy-Con 2, and the Costume Pack DLC included. Nintendo’s US store lists the Switch 2 release date as October 6, 2026; the original Switch edition was released September 24, 2024. Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing and THQ Nordic’s October 6, 2026 announcement identify the advertised features.

Visuals and performance
The Switch 2 edition is advertised with higher resolution and improved framerate, but Nintendo and THQ Nordic do not state specific output resolutions or frame rates. Treat the claims as a qualitative description rather than a promise of a particular number.

The Costume Pack DLC is included with the Switch 2 edition according to Nintendo and THQ Nordic. Nintendo’s original Switch listing identifies the Costume Pack as DLC separately; the cited pages do not establish the purchase process or availability in every region.

Can you play the original Switch version on Switch 2?
Yes. Nintendo’s US listing for the original Switch edition marks it as supported on Switch 2 and describes its game behavior as consistent with Nintendo Switch. This is a compatibility statement about the older edition, not confirmation that it gains the dedicated Switch 2 edition’s higher-resolution visuals, improved framerate, Joy-Con 2 mouse-style controls, or included Costume Pack.
Nintendo’s broader compatibility guidance notes that some Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible and recommends checking with publishers for specific details about non-Nintendo software. For this game, the more specific status on Nintendo’s product page is “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.” Nintendo’s compatibility guidance provides the general caveat.

- All in-game characters - most notably Oswald The Lucky Rabbit whose voice will be heard for the first time ever - are fully voiced by the official voice actors of those characters
- Players will experience Disney's forgotten characters and attractions in all-new levels and further explore levels from the original Disney Epic Mickey game, but now changed, impacted by world-changing events that have shaken Wasteland apart.
- New 2D levels based on classic Disney animated films and shorts will offer compelling puzzle-based, platforming gameplay
- Players will enjoy an original game story co-written by award-winning American comic book writer, Marv Wolfman, and Junction Point
- The storyline will feature a variety of new and returning characters that will further immerse players in Disney's rich history while adversaries familiar and new will challenge players.
Are the two versions otherwise the same game?
Both are editions of the same remake of the 2010 Epic Mickey. Mickey explores Wasteland in a single-player 3D platforming adventure, using paint and thinner to affect the environment. THQ Nordic also highlights dash, ground pound, and sprint as movement skills in Rebrushed. The central distinction in the official Switch 2 description is the set of advertised platform-specific enhancements and included Costume Pack, rather than a different adventure.
Which version should you choose?
- Choose the Switch 2 edition if you want the version advertised with higher-resolution visuals, improved framerate, Joy-Con 2 mouse-style controls, and the Costume Pack DLC.
- The original Switch edition remains an option on Switch 2 if you already own it or prefer to play that release; Nintendo lists it as supported with behavior consistent with Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo’s US store lists the dedicated Switch 2 version as a digital edition. The official sources cited here do not establish a physical Switch 2 release, save compatibility between editions, a paid upgrade path, or current retailer stock. Check the listing for your region before buying, since storefront details and availability can differ.
