When Discord stops working, first identify what failed—connection, audio, video, text, login, installation, or launch—and whether it affects one client or every device. Check Discord’s service status for voice-server errors, then follow the fix for your symptom and client rather than reinstalling or changing hardware at random.
First, narrow down what is not working
Note the exact symptom and where it occurs: Discord desktop, a web browser, or the mobile app. Also check whether it affects one server or channel, one device, or all of Discord. These clues help distinguish a local setting from a broader connection or service problem.

- Connection: Discord will not connect, or voice shows Connecting, RTC Connecting, No Route, ICE Checking, or Waiting for Voice Server.
- Audio: You cannot hear others, or they cannot hear you.
- Video: The camera, Go Live, or screen sharing fails.
- App: Discord will not install, update, or launch.
- Scope: The same function fails across clients, or only in one browser, app, network, server, or channel.

If voice displays Waiting for Voice Server, check Discord’s status page before changing local settings. Discord says this error is usually associated with broader service trouble. A headset, router change, or reinstall is unlikely to resolve a service-side incident.

Fix voice connection errors
Errors such as Connecting, RTC Connecting, No Route, and ICE Checking can point to interference between Discord and your network. Discord lists firewall or VPN interference, ISP outages, and restrictions on work or school networks among the possible causes; the message alone does not establish which one applies.
- Restart your modem, router, and computer, then try the voice connection again.
- Check whether your internet provider reports an outage.
- Review firewall and antivirus settings for anything blocking Discord.
- If you use a VPN, confirm that it supports UDP.
- On a work or school network, ask the network administrator whether Discord is blocked; do not try to bypass network rules.
- If you are allowed to change it, try a different voice region and see whether the error changes.
Discord’s voice connection error guide includes further checks. If they do not help, contact Discord Support and include the console-log screenshot requested in its guidance.

If people cannot hear you—or you cannot hear them
Check mute, deafen, and channel access
Check whether you or another participant is muted or deafened. Then verify that you have permission to speak or access voice in the server or channel; a working microphone cannot override a channel restriction.
Check devices, volume, and permissions
In Discord’s Voice & Video settings, confirm that the intended input and output devices are selected and that their volume levels are usable. Check that the microphone or headset is connected. In your operating system’s privacy settings, make sure Discord is allowed to use the microphone. Browser users should also check the browser’s microphone permission for the Discord site.

Test the microphone outside Discord
Use Discord’s microphone test, then test the microphone in another app. If it fails in both, the problem may be the device or its connection rather than Discord. If it works elsewhere, focus on Discord’s selected device, permissions, or settings. If camera, video, Go Live, or screen sharing fails

Confirm Discord has camera access in your operating system or browser, check that the correct camera is selected, and close other apps that may be using it. Make sure your Discord client or browser is compatible and up to date. Go Live and stream performance
If video or screen sharing is slow on desktop, Discord suggests checking drivers and trying Hardware Acceleration off. For stream lag, check connection stability and consider lowering stream quality or frame rate. These are troubleshooting options, not guaranteed fixes. Consult Discord’s system requirements if compatibility is in question; requirements may change, so avoid relying on an old minimum-version list.

Brazil: a dated regional restriction
Discord’s notice dated August 17, 2026 says Go Live and real-time video chat were disabled for users in Brazil under a government determination. The notice says real-time voice and text were not affected. This restriction is specific to Brazil and the notice’s stated date; it should not be mistaken for a camera, device, or network fault elsewhere. See Discord’s notice for Brazil.

Fully quit and reopen the client, restart the device, and check the relevant installation or update steps in Discord’s general troubleshooting guide. Confirm that your operating system is supported and, where applicable, use Discord’s official installer or your device’s app store. For current compatibility details, check Discord’s system requirements rather than assuming an older requirement still applies.

When to contact Discord Support
If the applicable official steps do not resolve the problem, contact Discord Support. Include the exact error and when it occurred, the affected client and operating system version, whether the issue affects one or multiple devices or networks, and what you have already tried. Add screenshots of relevant settings and the debug or console details requested by the troubleshooting guide for your symptom. For voice connection errors, include the console-log screenshot specified by Discord’s voice-error guidance.
