You can’t reliably confirm that someone has blocked you on Discord. A failed friend request, a missing direct message (DM), or a limited-looking profile may fit with a block, but Discord documents other explanations for those signs and does not provide a public block-detection test.
What a Discord block changes
Discord’s Ignore and Block comparison describes effects on both accounts:

- Direct messages: Neither person can send the other a DM.
- Friendship: Blocking removes the friendship, and the blocked person cannot send a new friend request.
- Profile: Discord says the blocked person sees a limited version of the blocker’s profile. Profile appearance is not a dependable test, however; it can vary with other settings and context.
- Shared spaces: The blocker may still tag or reply to the blocked person’s messages. Messages from the blocked person to the blocker are hidden without notifications, and the blocker can choose to reveal them.
These are documented effects of blocking, not a notification or confirmation sent to the other account. A change you notice may be consistent with a block, but it does not prove one.

A friend request fails
A failed request alone is not proof. Discord’s friend-adding guidance says requests may fail if the recipient has disabled friend requests or if the username was entered incorrectly. A block is another possible explanation, but the failure does not identify which one applies.

A DM is missing
Check your Message Requests and Spam areas before drawing a conclusion. Discord says messages from people who are not friends may go to a separate inbox, with routing affected by age group and settings. Spam filtering and server or account messaging permissions can also affect whether a message reaches you. See Discord’s Message Requests guidance and Blocking & Privacy Settings.
Messages or profile details look different in a mutual server
Hidden messages in a shared space do not tell you whether a block exists: Discord documents message hiding for the blocker, while allowing that person to reveal the messages. A tag or reply in the same space also does not rule out a block. Likewise, a limited profile view is documented behavior for a blocked user, but Discord does not present profile appearance as a diagnostic procedure.

Block and Ignore are not the same
Discord’s comparison distinguishes the features by their effects on the person using them:

| Friendship | Removes the friendship. | Leaves the existing friendship intact. |
| Messages in shared spaces | The blocker’s view hides the other person’s messages without notifications; they can be revealed. | The ignoring user’s view hides the ignored person’s messages without notifications. |
Because both features can hide messages from one person’s view, seeing a hidden message by itself cannot distinguish Ignore from Block. The comparison describes what the user who applied the feature can do; it does not offer a test for someone trying to determine what another user selected.

What you can check without treating it as proof
- Review Message Requests and Spam for a missing conversation.
- Check your own messaging and friend-request settings, and verify that you entered the username correctly.
- Use Discord’s official explanations of message routing, friend requests, and blocking and privacy to understand settings that may affect what you see.
If you still cannot contact the person, Discord does not provide a reliable way to establish whether the cause is a block. Avoid using alternate accounts or repeatedly trying to reach someone who may have set a boundary; use Discord’s privacy and safety controls when needed.
