To stop keyboard clicks on an iPhone running iOS 16 or later, open Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback and turn off Sound. Keep Haptic on if you still want tactile feedback. On iPad, try searching Settings for “Keyboard Feedback”; Apple’s cited instructions establish the iPhone route, but not the exact iPad menu path.
Turn off keyboard clicks on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Sounds & Haptics.
- Tap Keyboard Feedback.
- Switch Sound off. Apple’s instructions cover iOS 16 or later. Apple Support: Change iPhone keyboard sounds or haptics
The Sound and Haptic controls are separate. Leave Haptic enabled to keep the keyboard’s tactile response, or switch it off as well. Apple notes that enabling keyboard haptics might affect iPhone battery life, but does not give a specific amount.

Find the keyboard setting on iPad
Search for Keyboard Feedback in the Settings app and check whether your iPad offers a separate keyboard sound control. Apple’s iPhone support instructions do not verify the corresponding iPadOS menu route, so the exact label or availability may depend on the iPad’s software version. Apple’s iPhone user guide also describes keyboard sound and haptic customization: Customize the sounds and haptics of the iPhone keyboard.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Check whether it is spoken feedback
If the device speaks characters, words, auto-text, or predictions instead of making short clicks, check Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Typing Feedback. This accessibility feature controls spoken typing feedback, not keyboard click sounds. Apple documents it for iPhone and iPad: Hear iPhone speak the screen, selected text, and typing feedback.

Keyboard clicks have their own setting. Lock Sound and System Haptics are separate controls, so you do not need to silence the whole device or change those settings just to stop typing sounds. See Apple’s iPhone sound settings guide.
If the menu labels differ, they may vary with the software version or language. The cited keyboard-sound instructions apply to iOS 16 or later.
