The 50L/day capacity is specified at 32°C and 80% relative humidity in Glen Dimplex Australia’s 2022 manual. It is a test-condition-dependent rating, not a promise of 50 litres collected every day in a home. Extraction depends on temperature and humidity, and the unit is specified to operate between 5°C and 32°C. The unit draws room air over cooling elements, where moisture condenses into water; the air is then slightly warmed before it returns to the room. Dimplex notes that the running compressor produces heat and may raise the room temperature. This is a moisture-control appliance, not an air conditioner.

The figures below are from Dimplex’s 2022 product sheet. The 2022 manual gives different airflow and weight figures, so check the appliance rating label if exact unit-specific data matters. Dimplex also says specifications may vary.

The product sheet’s 53dB(A) is a manufacturer specification, not a measured in-room noise level. Likewise, 780W is rated power, not a measure of a typical day’s energy use or cost. A cost estimate would need your electricity tariff and information about how long the compressor runs in your conditions; neither is established by the rating alone.

Is it a good fit for your room?
Start with the room’s floor area and the conditions in which you need moisture control. The manufacturer’s recommended range is 24–60m², and the stated operating range is 5–32°C. The manual says operation outside that temperature range is out of specification. In a cooler or less humid room, do not expect the rated 50L/day figure.

- Potential fit: A room within Dimplex’s recommended area where you can provide the required clearances and manage either tank emptying or a drain route.
- Check first: A space regularly below 5°C or above 32°C, or one where the appliance’s heat output would be unwelcome.
- Do not infer: The specification does not establish independent extraction results, a guaranteed room-by-room outcome or comparative value against other models.
The 6.5L tank makes drainage a key decision
The tank holds 6.5 litres, far less than the rated daily extraction figure. In sufficiently humid conditions, Dimplex says the tank will need more frequent emptying and suggests continuous drainage for convenience. When the tank is full, the unit stops the compressor until it is emptied and correctly replaced. If the tank-full light stays on, check that the tank is seated properly.

Set up continuous drainage
The manual describes removing the rear cap to expose the drain nozzle, attaching a garden hose and routing it to a floor drain. The water tube is not supplied, and Dimplex does not specify a hose size in the cited instructions. Confirm that a hose fits the nozzle and that the drain route works for your installation rather than assuming a particular standard size.
- Place the dehumidifier on a level surface near a suitable floor drain.
- Remove the rear cap as described in the manual to expose the nozzle.
- Attach a compatible hose and route it securely to the drain. Avoid kinks and ensure water can flow along the route.
- Check that the installation drains correctly and that the unit remains level; poor hose setup or an uneven surface can leave water in the tank and trigger shutoff.
Set up and operate it safely
For effective operation, the manual advises closing doors and windows. Place the unit indoors on a level surface, keep the rear air inlet and top outlet unobstructed, and use the more conservative clearance of at least 50cm all around. The manual’s positioning section says 45cm on either side, while its safety passage says 50cm all around. It also says not to use an extension lead.

The manual recommends running the unit in continuous mode for 24 hours before first proper use. It describes a selectable humidity range of 35–80% or continuous operation, high and low fan speeds, and three presets: Continuous, Living Room (45%) and Bedroom (55%). Automatic defrost can pause the compressor while the fan continues until frost disappears.

Cleaning, weak extraction and other problems
Clean the filter and tank
- While the unit is in use, clean the washable dust filter about every two weeks. The filter indicator appears after 250 hours. Remove the rear filter, wash it with warm soapy water, let it dry thoroughly, then reinstall it. Do not use the appliance without the filter or wash the filter in a dishwasher.
- Empty and clean the water tank at least every third day. Before storage, empty, clean and dry it.

- Confirm the room is within the specified 5–32°C range and that the tank is empty and correctly seated.
- Clean a dusty filter and make sure the air inlet and outlet are not blocked.
- Close doors and windows, and consider whether another source is adding substantial moisture to the room.
- If the compressor pauses while the fan runs, automatic defrost may be clearing frost; the manual says the compressor resumes after the frost disappears.
Noise, leaks and error codes
If the appliance is noisy, check that it is standing level. If it leaks, check the surface, tank fit and—if used—the hose installation. The manual lists EH for a humidity-sensor issue, E1/E2 for temperature-sensor issues and E3 for gas protection. These codes are reasons to consult Dimplex support, not invitations to open the unit: the manual says the product is not intended for DIY repair.
Warranty and what is not independently established
Dimplex’s 2022 product sheet lists a two-year domestic warranty. The full current warranty conditions, replacement-part inventory and service turnaround are not established by that listing; confirm them with Dimplex Australia before purchase or repair.
